Huge blow to their secondary

Falcons DB Jeff Okudah was carted off the field Friday with an ankle injury.

Okudah went down in one-on-one drills Friday morning. The third overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Okudah — acquired by the Falcons in April — has managed to play just ten games in his first two seasons before playing 15 games in 2022. Okudah was a key addition to an Atlanta defense that ranked as one of the worst against the pass in 2022.

Only has 3 All pro selections, only 1 of those are 1st team. No where near HOF material.

He also was a 2010's All decade selection and only 15 sacks shy of getting 130 for his career (The magic number for HOF level career sacks). He's also one of, if not the, best run stopping defensive ends since he came into the league.

He's closer to the HOF than you think.

Agreed. Is he a first ballot guy? No. Will he eventually go in? More than likely.

Also, regarding Trey Lance - A stat that blew my mind:

Tom Brady threw more passes last season (799) than Trey Lance has thrown in his HS, College, and Pro Career COMBINED (798).

It blew my mind watching the Niners trade so much value to take a guy that was so inexperienced.

We've seen teams draft guys you knew would bust in the top 3-5.  We've seen teams draft guys that everybody thought were sure-fire hits that high, and have them miss.  We've seen teams reach for guys in the top 5.

What set this apart was that they traded up at a king's ransom price to do so to then reach for him.  Everybody knew he was going to take time to develop because of his inexperience, and there was no body of work to indicate he would develop, let alone pay off to the tune of what they paid to draft him.

I get it, he was "their guy," they believed they could mold him, and they didn't think he would stay on the board much longer, but sometimes getting "your guy" is the worst thing that can happen.

People may think that trading up for Young was just as big a risk, but Young has a body of work to judge his potential by.  Lance was basically a "good guess."

Broncos site hating on Hackett:

Well, on Thursday, during the Hall of Fame game, Nathaniel Hackett and his Jets' offense put up 16 points, which I think is hilarious. Yes, it's the Hall of Fame game. It's just a preseason game, and most starters aren't even suiting up. There is absolutely no indication that the Jets scoring 16 points in this game is going to spill into the regular season.

However, it is kind of funny to see. In Hackett's first game post-Broncos, his offense couldn't score 20 points. I do think it would be quite funny to see the Jets struggle on offense like that in the regular season. Maybe Aaron Rodgers is indeed over the hump a bit. Maybe Nathaniel Hackett isn't the best play-caller in the world.

Only time will tell.

Stupid comment for a preseason game. Hope the Jets' O scorches the Broncos' D in week 5.

Yep.  Equating much of any offensive output in the Hall of Fame game with what will happen in the regular season is a useless exercise.  I'm not sold on the Jets and Rodgers, either, but assessing Hackett's play calling based on that game or even using it to validate his futile effort in Denver is, well, stupid.

It is about like us piling on The Process based on a lousy scrimmage in Lincoln, NE.  While I would like to pile on him, that wouldn't be the ammo I would use.

Definitely stupid considering the Jets didn't play any starters at skill positions......if at all on offense

    • it's pretty simple IMO.  The Tepper Panthers are the most unsuccessful professional sports in all of sports.  The problem isn't the posters here have changed.  The product dictates the atmosphere more than anything.  In reality, the daily convos about THE worst team in all of pro sports on a fanatics site....is going to feature harsh and critical convo.  Only one entity can actually change that.  It's the Carolina Panthers football team.
    • Yes message boards will always include that sort of stuff… However, this place has been a cess pool since the team took Bryce Young over CJ Stroud. It becomes a problem when it is accepted and promoted, which it has been here (even by at least one mod). Many posters sole purpose on this board is to try to dunk on others for having different opinions. We just had one write a novella on how talking about Bryce Young’s game winning drives “needs to stop”…after a win. They don’t want real conversation. It “needs to stop”. There are many posters here who literally only show up after losses to dead thread and try to dunk on others about the QB (MRenshaw is an easy example). I really don’t see much of that happening the other way around. There’s too many people that would rather the team be bad so they can feel justified for constant doom and gloom and negative opinions. It’s been pointed out by many over the past couple years. This just isn’t a place to have football discussions anymore because of the constant hyperbole. If you don’t subscribe to “Bryce Young is the worst QB ever who can’t throw the ball further than 5 yards and is the reason why we lose any game we lose and doesn’t help in any game we win”, then you are labeled a Bryce Young Stan.
    • if you believe he is watching every NFL game.....every week.....go right ahead.  I get it, he said something you like.  But that's like believing the talking heads on the ESPN shows are watching all the games.  You think Stephen A is watching the Panthers every Sunday too?  If Stephen A needs to go on First Take he certainly can pretend like he has watched every snap any player on the roster has taken lol.   No one is that isn't a Panther fan has been watching the 9-25 career go down every Sunday.  Or even a lot of Sunday's.  You know who knows more about Bryce Young than Long? The collective huddle.  What they are reviewing is stat sheets, highlights and in summaries.  It's an old formula lol.
