City discussed $1.2 billion framework for Panthers stadium renovations

https://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/city-discussed-12-billion-framework-panthers-stadium-renovations/GPQZECP3AZAWHBQSMPQ5CZTEA4/

The Charlotte City Council discussed the future of Bank of America Stadium in a closed session on January 31.

>>At 6 p.m., Channel 9′s Joe Bruno will break down how the city and the Panthers will arrange funding for the stadium.

In that meeting, city leaders discussed a potential framework of a $1.2 billion project with $600 million in public funds. The discussion was meant to brief Charlotte City Council on what a potential deal could look like.

As long as my PSL's don't become worthless because of a new stadium and they don't put a dome on the current stadium I don't care.

I don't see how they're gonna spend the equivalent of damn near top dollar for a modern new stadium and NOT put a dome over BOA. There's gonna be serious fat involved in the project to line the appropriate pockets, but damn... you're still going to have to do some MAJOR work to justify 10 figures of spending on paper.

Economic studies have shown that public spending on stadium projects is a terrible "investments" and essentially amounts to a handout to billionaires. Something feels extremely grifty about the numbers involved too. Jerryworld cost $1.4B to build in '04 and was considered wildly extravagant at the time. The Falcons' new stadium cost $1.6B. You're telling me you need $1.2B just to RENOVATE our current stadium? I call BULLSHIT.

The city would be much better off to invest that money in infrastructure, mental health help, the homeless, education, or lots of other things than giving it to Tepper, especially just for a renovation. If he threatens to move the team over it, tell him bye.

    • Lions were never going Freeling over Miller for the same reason we wouldn't have taken Miller had Freeling not been on the board. Miller is a career RT Lions have a hole at RT, we have a hole at LT. If we took Miller, it would have been for him to backup Moton until he retires and/or we release him, so the best case scenario is it would have been a wasted 1st round pick for at least 1, if not 2 years.  At least Freeling has a shot at playing this year without injury ahead of him, he absolutely can win the LT job if he earns it, but Miller would have never supplanted Moton this year unless he got hurt.
    • What up y’all. I like threads like this where we can stroll down memory lane. I remember the insane amount of site traffic pre-crash when we signed Keyshawn Johnson, 06 I believe. Raging about the Cowboys Christmas Eve loss in 05 (Peppers touched that FG attempt as sure as Cotchery caught it). When I found the huddle I basically had a first born baby, now I’ve got one in college and one in high school. Life comes at you fast, but the Panthers and the Huddle has been a steady constant in my life for many years.  Those who have been here, y’all are cool with me any time any where.    Cheers, genitals!
    • This is a weird post since it wasn’t like we got A’s across the board. We needed a QB and got a consensus top 2 player at that position. (I was pretty vocal that Stroud should’ve been the guy but…)  I think this draft we generally got better value. I’m not particularly optimistic on BY but another year in this offense playing with TMac he really needs to be a consistently average QB at a minimum
