It'll be a short, but entertaining appearance by Holton. Started with a fumbled snap on the first play but was able to recover it. Had two big scrambles. Then threw a prayer while under pressure that turned into a TD, Thanks to a great play by the receiver Matt Landers. With 2 minutes left, Ahlers is 4-4, 43 yards, TD. 3 rushes for 29 yards.

A few thoughts reading through this thread…

-we picked the right QB.

-glad to see Holton Ahlers have some success, but he should try switching to TE/FB or prepare to be a QB in Canada.

-much like I consider Russell Wilson from Wisconsin bc that’s where he was drafted from and finished, I view Hurts from Oklahoma. I can see why the first schools would claim them, but they left and that shouldn’t be ignored.

-I know it’s early in their careers, but will the posters who were adamant we should take CJ over Bryce ever be able to admit their error?

I originally wanted Stroud over Young, but thought and still think both will have good careers. As soon as our staff picked Young I assumed he was the right choice. Between Caldwell, Reich, Brown, and McCown they have a lot of bright offensive minds. Based on what I’ve seen so far Young has confirmed why he was the right choice. It’s still insanely early in either player’s career, but it’s hard to argue against Young being the guy based on what we have all seen/heard so far.

Early? It's the first week of preseason lol.

Whichever QB who went to Houston was going to face an uphill battle.

Folks need to learn to separate draft prospect discussions from a personal vendetta bc it's not healthy to carry this years from now which I can tell some of you might.

Texans about to find out real soon why you need a Oline for a young QB.

Im so thankful we finally built a above average Oline. Bryce definitely has a better supporting cast than Stroud right now.

Texans were the worst team in the league last year and we were a few plays from making the playoffs (even after a horrible start with Rhule). We had a solid foundation out there for a rookie QB, AND THEN got busy AF in the offseason to build a damn near perfect scenario for him.

Same here.  But my concern for young is still valid

Agreed. Its not healthy There are setting themselves up really bad if bryce doesn't look the part in live bullets. The excuses will not help and they will make them. Both guys deserve some time before being dragged under a microscope in reality. What can you really determine off 4 passes in first pre season? It makes the comments sound way more trollish than reasonable analysis and thats funny comin from certain people.

    • He does have speed. 21+ top end speed is very fast for a linebacker and his 3 cone drill time is considered excellent, close to elite.
    • This is awesome because you get to see the perspectives of the scouts--get a glimpse behind the curtain. I wonder whose doing this was; I am curious as to why David Tepper allowed it. Maybe it was his wife. Maybe Dan.  At least from my perspective--and probably one shared by other fans--when David Tepper bought the team, he closed everything off too much to the fans, and really didn't give an explanation. Things were obviously done because he (and/or some others wanted to do it). Remember when they used the guise of construction and all that to keep fans from seeing the team during practice? I know there are laws and safety and all that, but Tepper could've made it happen. And, of course, we all know that they essentially fired Jeremy from his independent contractor gig as a photojournalist. I never understood why they'd do that (and the negative reverberations obviously affected Jeremy and ultimately this place--i.e, us fans). The pie was (and is) certainly big enough to throw some scraps to the independents. I realize that you can't necessarily open the floodgates, but a few different perspectives from indy journalists whether in word or photos is a good thing in my mind.  So, it's great to see different perspectives. I will say this however: it is not without risk, as you know there will be some buster who will be calling the scouts out if the players flop. I think we should all keep in mind that the buck stops with the GM. It's nice to have one, however, that is so convicted in his people and process--and ultimately success, that he's willing to give fans access to this type of information. Pass this on to Tepper.
    • I hope he ends up being our best ever at the position. Ryan Kalil left big shoes behind that we haven't quite been able to fill since.
