Brian Burns out of practice, Frank Reich not saying if absence is contract-related

It was my love letter to Burns in the TB gameday thread for loafing off.

Maybe he wasn’t trying hard because he/they didn’t actually want to win the game?

I realize so many on here we’re all about sneaking into the playoffs, but now that we’re where we are at, can people finally admit that rooting against your team at times can be unbelievably beneficial to the future of the franchise?

The Bucs snuck into the playoffs with a losing record, got beat, and ended up with the 19th pick in the draft and go into the season with Baker and Trask as their top 2 QB’s.

If we made the playoffs and had the 19th pick, there is a literal 0% chance we have Bryce and probably less than a 5% chance we could have even got high enough to get AR.  We’d have ended up drafting Levis or signing someone else like Carr or Jimmy G.

Would sneaking into the playoffs just to get blown out in the first round really have been worth screwing up our future?

I’ve always said REAL fans aren’t those who root for their team to win every game regardless of the implications, but those who can objectively step back and root for what is best for the franchise moving forward, this is a picture perfect example of that.

I wasn’t rooting for us to lose going into the season, but at the end, when it was clear the two options were a high draft pick or sneaking into the playoffs only to get blown out and set the franchise back another 2-3 years, it was an easy call at that point to want us to lose.

I don't think Burns wasn't trying hard to help set up our draft position, but anything is possible.

I wanted the Panthers to win the TB game and make the playoffs.

Fans rooting for or against the Panthers in the TB game doesn't have any effect on the outcome of the game of course.

Losing to TB was a benefit to the Panthers assuming Young pans out. The better QB he becomes, the better the benefit of losing the TB game of course. But the reverse is true as well, although it's more likely Young will pan out.

Your "true fans" opinion falls under the "no true Scotsman" fallacy, or fan gatekeeping without any authority.

I find it strange that you wanted us to lose the TB game, but that doesn't diminish your status as a fan in my eyes. If you care about the outcome of the game, then you're a fan in my opinion.

Brian Burns is gonna be the next Shaq. Overpayed and mediocre.

What would you do here today if you were GM? Say no deal and no new contract and let him walk eventually or pay a premium in a new contract? Im guessing you wont say pay a premium due to you believing he will be mediocre so what would be your plan moving forward today?

    • If the Panthers move, this Carolina Huddle forum should be dissolved too. No Panthers, no Huddle. I'm all for the Panthers staying, suckage or not. It's better to have a team to root for than no team at all. It's bad now but I'm holding out hope for better days. Cleveland has sucked for decades and even though it took a while they managed to be somewhat relevant and made the playoffs. At the same time, all these citizens who show up to voice their opinion about the approval probably have never watched a single panthers football game and just don't want to pay any taxes.
    • That would actually be hilarious. Piss off the most local of the fanbase to move to the college basketball Mecca and sow further disinterest.
