Chinn has to step up in coverage with Horn down

Chinn is a LB/S hybrid. He's not making up for losing our #1 CB. We were already thin at CB.

I get that Pitts is listed as a TE but lets be honest, he's a jumbo WR. He's a matchup nightmare. There are very few safeties and even fewer LBs that aren't going to be significantly overmatched by him one on one.

It’s not just Pitts, it’s the issue of Chinn looking poorly in coverage. I know Pitts is a different but Chinn was the guy who should be able to cover TEs.

We lucked out that Ridder is terrible. Pitts didn’t even double move Chinn here and he absolutely abused him. We need him to step up.

It’s been a long time since Chinn impacted a game

his rookie sensational year seems long ago

someone on this bloody team needs to step up and make plays

im sick of excuses ‘ it’s a new scheme’  ‘our star xyz is out’

this is football…not physics

lesser teams have won games

someone needs to step up Monday night

Chinn is once again an overhyped player. We continue to paint these guys as stars and they are not that.

Chinn is a hybrid S/LB who should be used on blitzes or in the box. He's not a DB.

If Chinn is a DB we are going to get torched in the passing game.

I’m probably guilty of remembering Chinns rookie year and thinking he’d be that plus some more in future seasons.

They immediately bumped him to free safety and stunted his growth. Maybe his rookie year was a flash in the pan no matter what but spending 2 years shoehorned into an unnatural position is not helpful, and he's still out of position this year. Dude needs to be a 4-3 SS/ Thomas Davis Joker-type player.

I know y’all are high on Chinn but the dude has massively regressed after his rookie year. His game tape we watch last year and this past Sunday shows it. He has every athletic trait you can possibly want. He lacks the nfl mental right now. Tons of little mistakes that add up. Watch his feet and hips.  He too often get caught flat footed and getting turned around. Also, he overshoots the run too often.  He could get away with that freak athleticism in D1aa but in the nfl he just seems to be a step Behind.

Yeah, a lot of folks are overlooking that the guy is playing his third position in as many seasons. Playing him as a deep FS was just absolutely baffling though.

    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
