The Panthers have a wide receiver problem

Nice @Verge,

We really REALLY need Mingo to step up as the season progresses and to nail a Tyreek Hill-level FA WR signing (Tee Higgins is the only one that remotely can qualify so far) next offseason.

I just don't think we'll be able to get Tee Higgins though sadly.

Mike Evans would be a great pick-up.  He's not as young as Higgins, but he's showing this year he's still one of the league's best and he's stayed healthy throughout his career.

Aiyuk would be a good trade target.

Im not so sure its a WR problem as it is an offensive playcalling problem. The reigning SB champs just did it with a WR1 of JSS and Travis Kelce. Theilen can get open. That’s been what he made a career doing. Great offensive minds scheme guys open. Our offense right now makes Mike Shula look like Andy Reid.

Frank Reich makes Joe Brady calling plays seem not that crazy

Are our wide receivers doing a good job, no. Is the coaching staff scheming them open, also no.

There’s a reason Puka Nacua has stepped in to the role of Cooper Kupp and is performing at the same level Kupp does… it’s because McVay can get guys open. Up to this point, Reich has not shown the ability to scheme our guys open.

Additionally, this isn’t new for a Reich coached team. The Colts were having the same problems in preseason last year that we did this year.

Look back at it. Joe Brady really wasn't the problem.  Our offense has gotten progressively worse since firing him.

2020

.Total Yards/Game 349.5 21st

Rushing Yards/Game 106.5 21st

Net Passing Yards/Game 243.0 18th

Not great by any means but how many times have we throw for 250 yards in the past 2 seasons and 2 games

He really can't.  There is a reason Minnesota chose to move on from him.  He's not getting separation like he was 3 years ago.

Thielen would be decent as a #2, but we need one of Chark, Marshall, or Mingo to step up.  It really needs to be Chark, too soon to ask that out of Mingo.

37 snaps 1 target 1 reception for 15 yards. It ain't going to be Chark

Yeah not him either. Mingo or nobody apparently. Marshall is a bust, Shenault is basically a running back, maybe give the return guy some routes. Hell maybe one of the practice squad guys, who knows at this point.

    • I would say that seems like an odd comment from Morgan, but at the same time it's almost impossible to find a college QB declaring for the draft to have less physical ability than BY so you can assume almost anyone you bring in would be your go to QB sneak/designed run guy.
    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
