Question for the Burns pocket watchers...

I am on the Burns doesn't deserve Top Dollar money.  5 sacks in 7 games?  On a pace for 10 maybe 11.  There will be several players in this league with more than Burns.  if keeping Burns was the difference in keeping a top 10 defense together than I would be all for signing him to a long term contract.  The sad trush is with or without him our defense is pretty bad. 

They say the best way to build a team is through the draft.  We need a reboot and trading Burns would give us some top-level, low cost talent to address our needs.  Not to mention the extra cash we would have to hit the free agent market and get another Stud or two. 

Burns is a good player but he excels when he has someone on the other side of him.  His best season was when Reddick was on the other side of him.  Burns can't carry a defensive line without help.

Trade him and get some assets to rebuild our defense.

He should not get Bosa or Watt money or close to it.  I want him here but he's just not as complete as those guys.  He's terrible against the run and whiffs on a good bit of tackles.  He gets often owned by a single TE blocking him and definitely one OL.  I really don't think he gets double teamed often in fact I would bet Brown gets more double teams than Burns which questions why Burns isn't getting to the QB more often.  He disappears for quarters at a time when you need him most.  I don't think anyone disagrees that he's a good player but he's just not a "x factor" type player like Bosa or Watt.  So in a world where he wants fair pay, sign him (should have happened already) but in a world where he thinks he should get Bosa money?  No thanks, trade.

Most good players are overpaid. Burns plays arguably the 2nd most important position in football. Those guys get paid. He's not asking to be the highest paid defensive player. He's not even asking to be paid Bosa money. So I don't get why this fanbase is so concerned with our best player "arguably" getting paid. He's not the second best player on the team, he's not even the second best player on the defense. And recently, he hasn't even been the best player on the defensive front seven, and arguably the front four.

A sack is a wonderful thing and if you get one in a game, that's great. But if that is regularly your only tackle and you are on a team that is 1-6.... you aren't doing enough.

I'm going to say this now, if we had a stud DE/OLB pass rush specialist to pair with him on the other side, we'd have the best duo in the league. Burns is best in a pick your poison situation. When he's the only threat, he can be bullied because of his slighter build. He's fast but power isn't his strong suit.

Put him across from say a Maxx Crosby type and the duo would both post double digit sacks. You'd be talking about having the best duo in the league. Heck, if you had two Brian Burns you'd tear the place up. He just needs a stable mate.

And yes, the Spider-man thing is massively cool. I love it. I really like the guy. He just needs some help.

The sad part about this Burns stuff is we will keep him and the Burns slander will continue for the rest of the season.

I dont necessarily believe that to be true as Burns isnt getting double teamed all that often as far as I can tell.  Maybe there is a next gen/pff stat that shows his rate.

My goodness man do you understand you need star players to be a successful team. Who the hell wants a team full of nobodies. People in the Nat'l media can't even name players on your team because you suck so bad.

 

Why even watch football? Hell im already missed the last 2 games and only watched the 1st half this past Sunday. I just can't watch pathetic football. It's a waste of time.

I will say it again why the hell are people so concerned with Burns of all the players on the team. He's one of our better players but if you browse the huddle you would think he is our worst player. Just weird vibes in the place.

Burns isn't the problem and if he was locked in to a Max Crosby type of contract everyone would be happy.  Paying him 30 plus million a year could make him a problem in building a competitive roster the next few years.

A few extra mil is not going to make him a problem.

 

So you would sign him for 28mil a yr but add an extra 2 mil which would be 30 mil a yr and now we can't make moves?
