Frank likely wouldn't have got a shot anywhere else. He's a dinosaur.

Sure, but one with a winning record until he took this job.  Crazy how coincidental that is, right?  Carolina is the place where coaching resumes get a permanent black eye.

Changing a football philosophy takes time. Chuck Noll was 1-13 his first year in Pittsburgh, Bill Walsh 2-14 in his first year in San Francisco, Jimmy Johnson 1-15 in his first year in Dallas. They went on to win 10 Super Bowls, total, with those teams. Not saying Reich would have won anything, but how can you know, 10 months into his tenure? (In Detroit, Dan Campbell in his first 11 games was 0-10-1; he’s 20-14 since.)

I'm sorry but this line of thinking removes all context and compares different eras against one another.

We traded away our best players to get the #1 pick thinking we were going to compete right away. None of those other three were brought in thinking instant success was right around the corner. Also, different eras, different rules for offenses, we should not be looking this inept on offense.

And Campbell's record in those first 11 games wasn't good, but neither were the Lions who were building up from scratch after Matt Patricia was fired after scaring off all their best players (Sound familiar?).

Also, Campbell's teams were COMPETITIVE in those losses. They didn't look absolutely outmatched and played inspired football during each one of those losses. You could tell they were building something and needed to amass some more talent and then the wins would come. We look both devoid of talent and devoid of anything resembling competent coaching.

This is whataboutism at its finest from King, and it's annoying.

He put in this disclaimer. Not that Reich could have turned this into Super Bowl winning team, but we will never know.  King's point being that I think you missed is if Knoll, Walsh, Johnson to a lesser extent Campbell all got canned during/immediately after their first season then history would be different.

He wasn't saying with time Reich would be a HOF coach leading us to multiple Super Bowls, rather if those HOF coaches all got the ax a year or less in, those teams likely would have not been the same.

-Moral of the story: Frank was a dinosaur, but we were playing 1950's ball last year during our winning streak as people are now lamenting letting Wilkes walk and Reich was expected to work miracles in year 1 while he apparently forgot how to teach QBs.

The fact is neither Wilkes nor Reich was ever going to be the answer. Tepper should have gone with a young offensive coordinator back when he hired Rhule.

Tepper tried, but with only 32 of these jobs--as people like to say--a couple candidates said thanks, but no thanks to Dave.  It's eye opening when dudes turn down millions of dollars to stay away from this dumpster fire, career killing organization.

Did he?

He wanted nothing to do with Steichen after one zoom meeting

Steichen seems to be just fine and has Minshew as his QB

Totally the right move to fire Frank. I doubt Young would say he didn't trust Frank and McCown but it's quite clear that they didn't trust him nor did they really want to be coaching him. Find someone (If there is anyone)  that really believes in Young and wants to coach him. If we suck again next year then honestly you fire that coach after 1 season as well and start over with a new coach and maybe fuging LISTEN TO THEM AND THEIR QB EVALUATION

If I remember correctly, Johnson declined an interview as was as Jim Bob Cooter.  Steichen got an interview which means Tepper was interested, but thought the interview didn't go well.

Minshew is also one of the top backups in the League.  Some of us (me included) wanted to go this route and take a QB this coming April.  Hard to tell what kind of success he would be having with Young in Indy if Bryce ended up there instead of here.

The best thing Dave Tepper can do is to hired a President of Football Operations.  Someone with some league executive experience who will run the team.  Do a nice public introduction where he is going to trust this person and will only be a fan.  No more talking to coaches outside of social situations.

I think if Tepper were to hire someone good, who will stand up to Tepper, then that might make things better for a future coach.

That would require Tepper putting his ego aside, something I wouldn't put money he is willing to do.

Honestly, my main hope is that he sees this franchise as a sunk cost and sell it to someone else.

    • Lawn boy he is trash! Dude wants to run the ball with the 25th ranked run offense. We can go back to Bryce talk now. Close!
    • I thought Matt Rhules felt like a traveling preacher/sewing machine salesman. Then I thought Reich had the emotions of the captain of a baby seal clubbing team. I kind of like Canales and think he may be adaptable in today's NFL. I know we need to to see it but does he not give you guys hope too, or will he get his moniker too? (My bad, tired of looking at the same thread titles)
