BREAKING: Albert Breer, Scott Fitterer’s job as the GM is not safe

Context to the clip:

Breer's speculation here doesn't directly say that Fitterer is in danger of getting fired just because.

He interprets his "no" answer as being because he thinks David Tepper is going to "prioritize the head coaching position", meaning that if a head coaching candidate wants a certain GM, he'll be willing to sacrifice Fitterer to get that candidate.

Basically the answer is "no, if this happens".

Mind you, Fitterer could still be fired depending on a lot of other things, but this particular answer should be understood in proper context.

Such a disgrace. Hire a competent GM that well respected long time NFL advisors recommend and then let that GM hire the HC.

This is very likely the exact situation. If a head coaching candidate is that big of a get, Tepper will jettison Fitterer and let the coach be involved in selecting someone to work with. That could be a good thing or a disastrous thing, depending on the dynamic that develops.

Retaining Fitterer and his staff including the scouting departments, though, will continue to be a disastrous thing down the road.

I get that, but I'm still of the opinion that letting a head coach pick the GM is an ass backwards approach.

If you want to replace Fitterer, fine, but It should be the GM picking the head coach. An employee choosing their boss is just not a great idea.

Oh, I agree. That's the way it is supposed to work.

But here, the owner seems to be very, very inserted into the chain of command further down than is practical. It's just a mess.

And in our case, maybe it would be better if someone at least familiar with football makes the GM decision.

That's where the idea of getting a team president and having them make the decisions on leadership comes in.

I hope so, results have been bad so far. I'm not really sure where the disconnect between the drafting and signing of players and them not working in our ( at least offensive ) scheme comes from but it needs to be rooted out. Coaching sucks we know that, they are gone. Scouting and drafting also suck, they should be gone but we will see. I think Fitts analytic leaning process need to be funneled through a true GM who is more pure football. It's always been that way with football....it just isn't baseball. Its a gladiator sport and numbers cannot tell the whole story on a player period.

    • Well bois, we gave the Devils their due! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... The jersey boys have been trying to jack our steeze for a few years now. They've followed our blueprints and studied our tape. Every offseason, they pounce on our sloppy seconds in a Newark minute. Quick with the puck, ferocious on the forecheck and stifling team defense. Down to the colors, this is this closest we'll come to having to play ourselves in Ole Stanley's Hockey Hoedown. As the postseason began, Rod stood flexing in the gym mirror and saw this guy staring back from the void... (Shutters) When beating us at our game didn't work, Timo and the Tri-State Trash tried to tango instead. Outside of a bitchass cheapshot on Freddie, that poo didn't work either. Their goon squad was getting wrecked by our bantam weights. As much as we all wanted to see Svechy or Staal Bunyan literally break someone in half after the Great Dane went down, they didnt need to. Our munchkins were monsters! Jarvis obliterating giants at the blue line, Logan laying the Stank on dudes twice his size and Blakers blasting Timo into next season. It was beautiful to see! (Side note: Does JBlo wear lead weights under his pads? 170lbs shouldn't be able to hit that hard!) We closed it out in 5, for the gentleman's sweep. Only team in the league to win a series in each of the past 7(?) seasons! And, this was supposed to be a rebuilding year... Onto the awards: Key To The Series : 6 for 19 - .316% IT FINALLY WORKED!!! MVP : 16/180 g/s - .911 save% - 2.53 gaa Seriously, without this dude, we would've won in 3! (Trust me bro) 3rd Star : 6/94 g/s - .936 save % - 1.59 gaa The Great Dane   2nd Star : 3 g - 5 a - +1 - 20:38 toi/g - 18 hits - 3 bs - 58.1% fo 3 PP goals and the 2OT series winning goal! WOOAAAHHH NELLY!!!!   And, your 1st Star of the series : 5 g - 1 a - +3 - 16:48 toi/g - 16 hits - 1 bs - 1 tk - 50% fo Zero, I repeat, zero penalty minutes for the series! MISSSTAAAHHH SVEEECHNIKOOOV!!!!!! Onto The Next: Now, we wait for the Habs to make it a nasty 7 game slog, while we recuperate. And, hopefully, get Nikishin, and some of the other black aces some real peactice time. We are gonna need those guys at some point. Because, if you think the Devils were dirty, hoooo boy, wait till you see what's next...
    • I don’t watch college football anymore (used to be Stanford STH but meh), but my wife is Hawaiian and her favorite color is purple, so I guess I knew Tet was my new favorite player to root for when he came out in a purple suit and lei and threw up the Shaka.
    • AJ Green is who I think of as well; the body control, fluidity of movement, hands catcher, always high pointing the ball with the occasional insane/acrobatic type of grab, etc
