We could have CMC and DJ Moore on this team right now and still have traded for Young. That is the sickening part. We lost a HoF type RB and that didn't have to happen to move up for Young. Don't trade CMC to SF, but do trade Burns to the Rams. Don't trade DJ to the Bears, offer other players. They would have taken a different deal. We were already offering a fantastic deal, and if the Bears don't want a player, then offer another future pick. Fitt DOES NOT know what he's doing.

CMC didn't want to be here....he sat his way out of Carolina.  You don't see him missing an entire season for San Fran do you?

Fug CMC.

As for Burns, tag him if he doesn't want to negotiate.  If he doesn't sign he can sit at home and we retain his rights.

Teams don't look kindly on the type of player who will sit out and pout over a fair deal.  He'll have to come back after not playing and not get paid as much on a "prove it" deal and I have doubts unless he is opposite a real disruptive DE that he won't be able to generate $30M+ contract #s.

Bring him into the office and lay this on the table: One year contract at $11 million. Sign it and we try to trade you. You get a prove it year with a good paycheck somewhere with a chance to extend that contract there if you play up to their wants. If not, just let him go and accept the third round compensatory pick and wish him the best.

Tag and trade his ass. If we can't get a trade partner then let him walk and get a compensatory. Should have traded him to the Rams when we had the chance but hindsight is 20/20. I can definitely say I don't feel he is worth some big ass contract.

There is nothing hindsight about “should have traded him to the Rams.” Many on this board were screaming that exact sentiment at the time.

No hindsight necessary - it was obvious then and there that it was an absolute windfall for a second- or third-tier player like Burns.

Counter point:  How are DJ Moore and CMC doing outside of Carolina?  What did we do with the assets we got from them?

While I don't want to pay Burns $30+ million a year, let's be careful what we wish for.  Burns put out 8 sacks on a team that NEVER led.  He never got to pin his ears back.  His next best edge rusher this season was YGM.

While Burns wasn't all world, he was the only remotely consistent pass rusher we have.  Luvu has been a good interior pass rusher, but that was not his primary job this season.

This entire season was a giant TURD of a season.  No one is immune from the smell.  But if we trade Burns or let him walk, don't be surprised if he plays well else where.  We keep trading away great talent and we have a 2~15 record to show for it...  Maybe, just maybe we try keeping a talented player.

He doesn't earn his salary here. I'm not a fan of paying an unearned contract to a player to prevent them from possibly earning it somewhere else.  If he's not earning his current contract here there's absolutely no reason to give him a raise.

    • I'm OK with picking up the 5th year option (mostly because there aren't any clear long-term better options likely to be available in the offseason) but I need to see a lot more consistency before I'd support a full-on contract extension.
    • Yall are a little unrealistic. This is the first time in his 3 years that this QB has had a roster they could actuallyt win with - and we're in the playoffs. No one to throw to and the worst interior oline this franchise has ever fielded as a rookie. Defense was meh but would get worse. Second season Derrick Brown gets injured for the year in the first game and we march out the worst run defense (and possibly overall defense) in the history of the NFL. So many on here talking about an average QB would have this team with 12+ wins. You're delusional. How many games would we have won last season with just an average defense? KC, Philly and the first TB games off the top of my head. And that's with Thielen as your best receiver, rookie XL and rookie Coker. David Moore was the second best receiver last season. David Moore. This season the defense has improved but we're lining up too many rookies to make it to the playoffs on both sides of the ball, yet here we are. I ain't saying Bryce Young is the answer, but he has been a big part of some big wins this season. I'm hopeful that we'll see improvement when he has more time with this very young receiving corp. Remember, they're learnig how to be pros at the same time as we're going to the playoffs. The only veteran receiving  presence we've had this year is Tommy Tremble. We could actually see big improvement if David Moore comes back healthy. And that is saying alot.
    • Dowdle was fresh and it was early in  the year. It gets more difficult later in the year when teams improve, gel and get in their grooves. Hunt being out also plays into it but then when was the last time the Panthers adjusted well with personnel? Morris did some good but the QB situation was enough to sink both him and the GM. I'm more on the 'if they played Cousins they could have won the division this year' side. It would have been ugly but it was really low hanging fruit. Penix getting g I injured again and losing the division by a game was enough to know he isn't the guy IMO. 2 years is the standard and he still falls on the wrong side. Im surprised Lovie is back. I have zero faith he can build up any team. Did a decent job maintaining someone else's build but how he handled this year vs the last 2 was enough to give him a pink slip IMO.
