Evero didn't take the interim HC position. Why would he take the HC position? He agreed to come in with Reich. Both Evero & Brown were just finishing out their contracts before leaving for better ownership was my understanding.

I'm sure he wasn't offered the interim HC position.

He turned the interim HC position down in Denver because he was friends with the HC they fired and he wanted to leave.

Teams did not have to try to score very often on us they would score quickly then run the ball alot to run the clock down.  If an opposing team scored 10 points the rest of the game they could sit on the lead and just burn the clock.  I cant remember them coming up with many goal line stops or big 4th down stops or a ton of takeaways.

Yes, 'cos the NFL is known for it's mercy.

Good lord.

People going back and forth on whether this is a good defense or terrible one.

I just say GOOD LUCK evaluating this defense; it was paired with the most unwatchable offense in franchise history.

Just look to Rhule's #2 D and then the next year's numbers with Wilks running the ball for half a year after that.

It wasn't terrible but it wasn't top 10, neither were unless you only use yards allowed for both. And Wilks D fell apart as his time went on because other teams had to do more to win vs mailing it in against Rhule who only wanted to run CMC into the ground.

Considering the 3-4 swith that is fine with me. Those do take time. But there is very recent precedence to help unlock the mystery of how good that unit really is. Solid and likely average at best in the overall rankings.

The panthers were 27th in red zone defense, 29th in scoring defense, 15th in third down defense. 4th in total yards per game.  You could look only at the yards per game and think it was an amazing defense or you could look more at the other categories and believe it needed improvement.  To me it seemed like just about anytime the other team needed to make a play they did.

Having an offense this terrible lets the defense look alot better than it really is.  Teams can sit on a small lead and play it conservatively b/c they know no chance the panthers score. I look at it as more everytime the panthers terrible offense actually put up decent points the defense still allowed the opposing offense to put up more .

Exactly lol we never got a stop in a close game when we needed one

I disagree, we certainly got stops in the 4th qtr when we still had a chance to win the game.  In the Vikings game, down by 8, defense gets a 3 and out, offense goes on a 15 play drive that ends with a sack and turnover on downs.  Texans game, defense didn't allow a single score in the 4th qtr, and we won on a last second fg.  Colts game, defense didn't allow a single offensive td.  We were down 20-10, defense shut them down cold, offense throws a pick 6, game over.  Bears game, defense didn't allow a single 4th qtr score, but the offense did nothing, so we lost by 3.  Tn game, defense didn't allow a second half score at all, but with no offensive production, we lost by a single td.

Those are just some of the games where the defense got needed stops, but the offense usually couldn't take advantage.

I mean what more does he have to prove on defense. This man should be a HC if not with us definitely for someone else. He was the only bright spot on the team. Our defense somehow was top 5. Evero is HIM!

NO THEY WEREN'T.

Our defense was bottom five in the one category that matters:  Points Allowed.

Great, they were fourth in yards allowed.  How many games did we win because we didn't allow many yards?  Oh, that's right.  NONE.

Had our defense been ACTUAL top 5 - allowing 18 ppg - we would have won an additional 5 games and tied another.  We'd have been 7-9-1.  You know, competitive.

As I've said elsewhere, I don't lay all the blame at Evero's feet.  There were plenty of circumstances which led to a poor defensive performance.  I'd be happy for him to be our DC next season to see if he really can build something.

As far as "what more does he have to prove" . . . that's easy.  I'd like to see him build and maintain a top 10 defense for 3 years.  As a defensive coordinator, Evero has *never* led a top 10 defense.  That'd be a nice start
