You do realize Hurney put together the foundational rosters for 2 panthers eras that were in the playoffs consistently, won division titles & went to 2 SBs?

Bad GMs can't even improve a roster to get to the playoffs after the previous GMs foundation has been cleared out. Then there are the ones that ride the coattails of the previous GM & claim it as their success.

Then one can only surmise that Hurney doesn’t get credit for anything from 2002-2005. That was the previous staff he was living off of. If he gets credit for 2013-15, he doesn’t get it credit for his earlier accomplishments. Without Hurney, the Panthers went 51-29-1 with 4 playoff appearances in 5 seasons. Around those, Hurney went 23-41 the previous 4 years, and left a team in salary cap hell. Then took it back over and went 17-31 and could keep a consistent playoff team even in contention for a spot.

So which is it? Can’t have both. Seems closer to neither.

I was talking about Gettlemen. He was assistant under Gettlemen right? Have I mixed up something?

Beane was under Hurney. Took over as interim GM in 2012. Gettleman was hired over Beane in 2013 (bad decision). Beane had to see Gettleman tear down the work he did as part of the team under Hurney since 1998. Gettleman was suppose to keep Beane around to be the eventual Panthers GM. Gettleman set up Beane & McDermott to be hired by Buffalo following the 2016 season. Guess Gettleman thought it would cement his future as Panthers GM. Gettleman had a falling out after this stunt & in a few months was fired before the 2017 training camp opened. Hurney came back but Gettlemans damage was done & the Bills profited.

4 years forced under Gettleman & 15 years under Hurney.

Do you just make this stuff up as you go along? IMG_0084.gif.d51a22cab08dabb6052ea153426b58e1.gif

He was that previous staff. He was next to Seifert. Hurney was with the team in 1998 after Polian & brought in his protégé in Beane. They took over roster building/administration under Seifert & immediately put together a 1999 contender that would lead to a SB roster including Dan Morgan. Prior to that Hurney came from the Chargers & helped lead them to a SB roster under Beathard.

Didn't realize the roster was built with Hurney while Seifert lost a competitive team with his coaching decisions & fallout with Musgrave?

The 2001 team won 1 game.

Hurney was actually really good early on.  Drafted well and did FA well.

Wow… this is… mind boggling. My only hope is there is a ton more info internally where Dan showed where he vouched for said players that Fitt passed on who were successful elsewhere. Idc that Dan came to huddle tailgates and used to play here, get the best man for the job. Maybe he is, and I’ll do my best to trust it but being an internal promote does not get me feeling warm and fuzzy about this at all.

Will sit back, shut up, and hope he proves me wrong.

I don’t like to be overly negative I guess people are just not excited. An internal hire has Teppers poop finger prints all over it. Doesn’t feel like he’s learned anything going internally.

But he’s never gone internal before. This is a new strategy. Didn’t he hire a firm to help him?  What if this was their suggestion?

    • Which would be 8-8-1. An improvement.
    • Not sure who you are talking to. Everybody maybe? Anyhow the family cat woke me up so….  Saturday, I will be in the playoff frame of mind for that game don’t worry about that. Will be living and dying on each play. Pretty sure everyone will be. That is still a few days away though.  Right now it is yes we made the playoffs. Backed into it with some convoluted 3 way tie breaking magic. It took a heroic finish - not by us, but by Atlanta. I don’t hardly know how to feel about it. I don’t feel like we won it. It is just sort of, well okay here we are, somehow. Our number came up. We were lucky. And that is what we were. Not good, lucky.  As far as here, this discussion, I think people rightly feel like, look at the offense. And it is kind of, what offense? They shut our run down and we become totally stagnant. Some people have faith that the QB can beat people with his arm but we aren’t doing it. We went into our bye off a big high. In or tied for, first place. We control our destiny. 4 games to do it. And we freaking finished 1-3. That control our destiny thing? We didn’t control poo when it comes down to it. Lost in the mix is basically a huge collapse. No one really called it out, it got lost in the excitement of the chase. But, 1-3 with the playoffs on the line - every week. Not inspiring. I mean, you don’t call that trending up, and if we hadn’t lucked into the tournament that would be our finish headed into the offseason. Not what you want. And if we don’t win Saturday? 1-4 to finish the year.  Limping out.  Okay that said I do hate going into playoffs on a winning streak because you are almost due to end the streak and that loss ends your season, so dropping One before the elimination games start is almost a comfort. But 1-3 with a 54 yard passing total in one of them? Followed by 14 points in a must win. Hmmm.   I am supposed to be optimistic? Sorry I don’t think I can be. I can hope, that’s different. It has just been a rough 8 years, and the excitement of having a winning record is in the rear view this week. About the only way we can have one is make the NFCCG I think.    Anyhow, on offense, where are the signs that we can beat people who stymie our run game? I suppose it could happen out of the blue but we haven’t really been able to pull that off.  Beating Tampa Bay was good. That was it though. Our other last little bit of glory is two plays on 4th down where they didn’t really pay attention in the back end, somehow, and we got two really nice results.  Not once, but twice back to back. Honestly it was so out of character it felt a little fluky.  And here we are, depending on that to happen Saturday. At least guess is what we are hoping for. Good luck to us.
    • Yeah that’s how I see the division currently and when I say repeatable I mean wins against teams like GB and the Rams, dominated performances like the first atl game  other playoffs teams we’ve faced we got blown out, team still doesn’t have an identity expect being inconsistent
