We already know it's possible once every few blue moons. It's just not a winning strategy to count on, akin to banking on winning the lottery to fund their retirement.

It hasn't happened since they changed the illegal contact officiating. Nick Foles is the closest but during that SB run he caught lightning in a bottle and played ELITE.

Goff only had to throw one pass on that drive for 14 yards. Everything else was explosive run plays , and Lions get a quick score.

And BTW both Jameison Williams and Jahmyr Gibbs were both on that Alabama team when Bryce won the Hiesman. You can see how explosive they are. It helps having elite talent around your QB and an elite o line

this is just such an incredibly lazy narrative. Brady went to an absolutely stacked TB team and Arians already had a successful HC stint with Arizona despite not having a franchise QB there. Belichick was the only reason the patriots won their first 3 SBs and still a huge reason they won their last 3 (especially the last one where brady had 2 TDs and 3 picks in 3 postseason games). His record without Brady is skewed by most of it being with Cleveland who had tons of issues and at the tail end of his coaching career after the league had evolved and started passing him by.

Reid has had a significant hand in making Mahomes the GOAT. He had incredible success too without Mahomes despite not winning it all. Sustained winning seasons and playoff appearances with Alex Smith, Donovan McNabb and even a post-prison Mike Vick. Ridiculous to diminish his accomplishments because he's had a HoF QB on his team. A HoF QB that he developed.

Where is Reid SB without Mahomes?

This is a players league and more specifically a QB's league.

Put Reid as our HC this year we probably win a few more games. Put Mahomes as our QB we probably in the NFC championship game.

    • If we do this(bring him back soon), it better be with the intent to jettison Hunt when he re-injures this. Otherwise, it will be insanely foolish from a short term and long term perspective.
    • I go back and forth on Canales. If he gets this team to the playoffs though, I'll be a believer.
    • The determination used for Spotrac and OTC are not clear to me. It does seem to heavily be weighted on playing time/starting but as we know that isn't always a determination of market value. BC I don't know if he will return to us. It depends on his recovery. That was a really bad injury to have for a guy that will be very close to the end of his career. I hope he recovers completely and we get 2-3 more years of excellent backup play from him. He has been quietly one of our most valuable lineman in a long time, despite being a backup. I am find keeping Corbett at the correct cost and as a backup. He has no business starting at Center anymore. Not to mention he can literally never stay healthy. I agree on EDGE and QB. Two biggest issues by a wide margin(amongst the PILE of other issues). We have a couple of young guys that look to be capable role player replacements for Jones/Wonnum, but it is time to shoot for the moon and get actual upper tier pass rushers into Carolina again.   Final note, when I am pooh-poohing these reserves that you are falling in love with, it's nothing special I am doing. A bit of "eye test" with a healthy dose of realizing that most backups are backups for a reason. Especially when they have gone through multiple free agent cycles and the league has resoundingly said, "Nah." Not everyone is Freddie Luvu. Most are Christian Rozeboom's.
