Breaking: Panthers sign former Seahawks OG Damien Lewis

I’m not so sure these two OL moves are a chance to help Bryce. I think they signify that Dan and Dave don’t think Bryce is the answer.

The amount of money paid to Hunt and Lewis leads me to believe the Panthers brass thinks they will have a QB on a four year rookie contract through 2028 (2024 for Bryce: 2025-2028 for the 2025 first round draft pick). These moves allow the line to gel for a year and set the next guy up better than Bryce was set up last year.

Meh idk about that. We had one of the weakest interiors in the league last year. They are trying get Bryce a similar pocket to what Brees had in NO with a really strong interior.

This is going to help us a lot because now we can really run the ball with Chubba. Getting Foreman back wouldn’t be a horrible move either. Hopefully we can grab receiving back in the draft.

I get that. If Bryce works with this group, that will be great for the Panthers. I just wonder if the big money being spent on IOL could be a signal that the QB may be on a rookie scale longer than Bryce would.

Bryce still has 4 years with the option if he hits

You know, I was just looking at pff last night and Saud, if these guys are serious about a zone scheme and defending Bryce, this is the guy. They're doing what they said they would do.

Would not be shocked if we swap that day 2 pick for tee Higgins. Not sure I agree, but we get a "1" in that case.

I fully expect us to now go C at 33 and WR at 39….its like we’re actually trying to let our young quarterback succeed…crazy concept for most…

Still holding out hope for a FA C.

I think to an extent, a rookie C plays against the stability they are trying to create up front for Bryce.

Get a WR that can contribute in 2024.  A C is going to be a project

Well, that works too! Bring on Ladd and VP. Can he be had for the 3rd?

I think he could go as high as 2nd if it’s later but won’t last past the 4th. It all depends on where the centers ahead of him land too tho.

What a surprise to wake up to.  Two guards, $150 million in funny money.  The huddle going bup, bup, bup.

Somethings never change!

I'm glad they are investing in the OL.  We'll need that to run the ball and for Bryce.  I'm not ready right now to give up on Bryce without seeing him play through this coming season, but IF we decide to move off of Bryce in a year or two, these guys will still be here to keep a Qb clean.

Lewis and Hunt will sumo wrestle for the right to wear #68.

Would be an interesting shoving match, yeah they overpaid but these two are both top five pass blocking OGs in the NFL, we don't have to like it but they are doubling down on Bryce Young and using the new orleans blueprint, draft a few WRs and he won't have an excuse not to perform this year.....

Because he's going to need too the defense is going to be Swiss cheese.

    • We have seen Bryce get outplayed by all manner of QBs, from UDFAs to second round picks.  If we actually scouted any QBs it would not be a difficult task to upgrade from Bryce, you guys act like he is even decent. He is one of the worst starters league wide stop making excuses.
    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
