Trading a 2nd for a one year rental? And 22M guaranteed for one year?

I seen somewhere that he's still on a deal for like 18, 19, 16 in 25, 26, 27.....just no more guarantees. A little confused, which is it a FA in 25 or 18 for 2025 with no guarantees?

What does ability to be a free agent mean, diggs can be like "peace out fools, Im a free agent" after the year? I think Texans could do that if the 31 year old diva shows age. idk.

From nfl.com:

As part of their deal to acquire Diggs, the Texans are eliminating the final three years of Diggs' contract, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday. The move adds four void years to Diggs' deal, while moving money originally guaranteed for 2025 into 2024, effectively giving Diggs a one-year, $22.52 million contract, per Rapoport.

Diggs will become an unrestricted free agent in 2025, meaning his first season with the Texans could also be his last.

If Diggs performs well then they bring him back on a new deal, if he carries over his problems from buffalo then they cut ties after this year with nothing attached. I get it.

Except he’ll be an unrestricted free agent so there’s no guarantee they get to bring him back if they want to. Pretty strange deal.

Well thats why it goes back to what i said if he performs well, Houston feels like they are building a good culture over there players want to be apart of and problem think they can keep him longterm if everything goes right next year. Diggs has already spoken highly about stroud if im not mistaken so the interest was already there.

They could tag him. And honestly regardless of how he plays this year I’m not sure he’ll get more than he had on that contract anyways. Weird that he accepted that.

This is a move you make if you believe you've got a really small window and you're not looking long term.

Just a weird move. Maybe they just got lucky last year.

    • Yes, he's a tier above them, but you also touched on the money side of it.  With T-Mac locked in as our #1 on a rookie contract for a few more years, I'd much rather use that money that would be needed for DJ on our defense and develop Coker into our #2.   Especially given his contract situation as an UDFA, as his contract is up at the end of this year but we can keep him around for a 3rd team controlled year on the real cheap.  Which means we probably could get him to sign a very reasonable extension this offseason to give him a little more money while giving us a bargain contract for what he provides. DJ's contract is north of $20 million for the next 5 years, why pay that for your #2 WR with the needs we have on defense and you have guys like Coker, XL, and Horn on rookie contracts who very well could combine to be a serviceable 2-4 WRs behind a stud in T-mac? I love DJ and he'd be a great fit on this team as our #2, but the money side of it just makes absolutely zero sense, that's all it comes down to for me on this one. And no, I don't see the Bears wanting XL back in that trade, because they drafted Burden, who is essentially a better version of what XL provides, a player you want to get the ball into their hands and let them go to work.
    • I didnt see that many bad calls in the panthers cowboys game, but the chiefs especially in the playoffs were getting every single call they could get then the refs when it didnt matter would throw a call towards the other teams.  That I believe was the taylor swift effect.   But its crazy just thinking about how easy it is to change a game.  You dont need but a single ref to make a few close calls go towards one team over the other and in the nfl that is the game.
    • I don't think it's unrealistically blaming Bryce Young......to say has been a reason, sometimes a big one, in why our pass offense overall has been extremely week over the past 3 collective seasons.  I think that bothering anyone, is just being overly invested in some Bryce Young argument.  It's just a reality.
