Did Scott Fitterer draft any good players?

To be fair I don't listen to anyone who says a draft pick sucks the moment they are taken.

i know people might be shocked to see me say this, but i'm kind of the same way.

There's no way at this moment I would consider Ickey "really good". Even in his rookie season he struggled mightily in pass protection.

He was really good his rookie year. He wasn’t perfect, he had rookie moments, but he was certainly really good. I saw no struggling “mightily”. He was better vs the run, but still decent against the pass over the course of the season.

Fitts was a bum. I told y'all he was a bum when he took a GM job that didn't have final roster say. No legit GM candidate is taking a GM job in title only.

So it wasn't his fault? What are you trying to say here

I'm saying we hired an unqualified "GM" in title only. Fitts was just willing to be a rubber stamp for a paycheck. Whether you want to say it's "his fault" or not really just isn't relevant. He cashed his checks, our shitty roster building took place, and now here we are with his underlying in the role now expecting things to get better. Let's just say that I'll believe it when I see it. "It" being winning games on Sundays. Not "winning" the off-season.

Horn is elite when healthy and was the right pick. He’s better than Surtain and the injuries couldn’t be predicted. Ickey is really good, one down year in a clusterfug of bad coaching and Mr. No Pocket Presence doesn’t change that. I’m confident he’ll get back on track. Christiansen and Chuba are decent.

While I agree Horn’s injuries could not be predicted since he didn’t have a history of them coming out of college, I don’t think he’s proven to be better than Surtain when healthy. Who knows, maybe if he had stayed injury free he would have been better and he just hasn’t been able to develop as much due to the injuries. Hard to fault the team for that when they were neck and neck in pre draft evals.

HOWEVER, acting like Ickey has ever been “really good” in pass pro is some wild revisionist history. He was a dominant run blocker coming out of college who teams thought could develop into an elite LT based on his size and athleticism, but his weaknesses coming out of college remain his weaknesses now. We decided to run the ball for 75% of the snaps for half a season in 2022 and people thought that meant our OL could pass pro. So nonsensical.

This is why its comical when people disparage fans for an opinion or thinking they could do better.  Granted, your good front office people are smarter than most fans, but anyone can be terrible.

I could take a big board list from ESPN or PFF and let my dog paw at it and he would at least be terrible also.

To me what's even more frustrating is all picks that were traded away.  Just in the drafts he oversaw, the guy traded away 12 picks.  We're still suffering for this year and next with picks he traded away.  Is it too much to ask that our GM just, you know, draft some guys?

Oh, and with the exception of Bryce, the guys we traded for are no longer on the team.  Is it any wonder we have a talent deficit on the team?

It's just don't out of convenience. There's no disparaging of fans who share similar opinions. But let someone offer a difference of opinions and "*scoff* Yeah, I guess all the experts are just wrong." As if there aren't busts and steals in every single draft where the "experts" got it wildly wrong.

To be honest, mainly I just spoke about how bad Fitterer sucked at making draft picks, rather than a single player. Seems rough to just pick on some kid straight out of college and tell him he sucks before he's done anything. Now a 40-odd year old football exec who is supposed to know what he's doing, and who has been anointed by a billionaire? That guy, I don't have a problem saying he sucks when it's pretty obvious.

He was a chump, a mark, a rube and was a sports exec of the George Costanza model.
