Blueprint: Episode two

After watching these i have a conspiracy. I think the Panthers are very seriously considering moving on from Bryce after this season if things go poorly. Particularly in episode two Bryce is not shown a lot nor is mentioned much. It's all about "building the team and the culture". Nothing we have done this offseason would preclude us from dropping another rookie or a veteran in next year.

If next year is a trainwreck and we have the number one overall pick again, why would Morgan/Canales stake their jobs on a guy they ultimately both didn't hand select?

It definitely seems like they are relying on the vets, even the new free agent vets to lead the pr/culture/vibe while qb is just 1 of 11 after that massive draft gamble.

How could you have that takeaway? Just rewatched those 2 min and it shows Dan fully in control. There’s even a spot where Tepp looks to him and asks who he likes… Dan says Wallace, who we drafted. Seems like he’s making the call.

end of the day, Tepp cuts Morgan’s paychecks so I don’t really expect him to be rude or ignore him.

Did you miss Dan turning to T during that jets trade to see if T thinks it’s a good idea?

Or all the shots of Dan bouncing ideas off T to get feedback.

Or the fact that T sat between Dan and Canales.

I get T is the owner, but he gives nothing of value in those discussions.

Dan needs better quality input.

If you’ve ever worked in corporate, you know how fast people bend to the HIPPO even if that person isn’t really being a jerk about it.

Just my observation.

They have to move on if he’s a trainwreck. They have no other option.

The kicker will be if both he and Icky are train wrecks.

No good options at that point.

You didn't watch the video?  Did you really just get into an argument about a video you didn't watch?  I'm not even mad, I'm impressed.

I know enough, people saw Tepper's face and had a reaction about what he has consistently been here.  Seems fair.   So I call it fair.

I have given up Panther content entering a season.  That was made last offseason.   Panthers control too much in that content space now and I'm not buying any preseason thoughts at this stage about how Tepper is now different, new GM is now different because insert whatever, etc.  It's Groundhog Day at this point.

I'm waiting on proof at this point.  Until then, it all is what it is.

I guess we have different experiences in corporate America. Imo it would be far far weirder to sit there and essentially ignore your CEO when talking about personnel decisions, however to your point the person you hire for that job should always have final say. Input is fine, but you hire a smart person to play a role and ultimately let them make the call… from what I see that is how we did it this draft.

ultimately the way I interpret this video is Dan got everyone he wanted when it was our turn at the podium. Def a chance PR isn’t releasing all the decision making process but from the limited part I saw it looked quite solid with a decision maker who got final say regardless of outside factors and input.

maybe having an upgrade LG will help Ickey this year but that's the thing I think Ickey belongs at LG instead of at LT

& let's be honest Brady Christensen is a better option at LT. it's just Ickey was the 6th overall pick & they are going to try & shove a square block into a round hole over & over in an attempt to develop him until it's a lost cause

That’s a smart move from our PR team if true. I’m a Bryce supporter but I’ve said many times we will know by Thanksgiving if he’s our guy or not. If he is, you don’t need a PR team to hype your QB that will come naturally. If he isn’t, you can hopefully move on amicably and setup Brooks and XL as your young core to build off

I'm just saying if you watched that video and took away from it Tepper is messing up again, you either weren't paying attention or were going to come away with that opinion no matter what.  I don't care if people like him or not.  I don't care for him right now.  It was mainly a video about how Morgan operated the draft.  Maybe they intentionally made it appear that way, but it was pretty clear they either wanted us to think this is Morgan's baby or it really is.  Again not watching the video I think you are just wanting to argue or shoot the poo for a minute.

Brown, Jewell & Robinson look to be the leadership on defense. Jewell is a guy who I think is pretty unheralded. He was really strong for the Broncos.

On offense, Hunt looks like the dude on the line but it still maybe slim leadership wise elsewhere. Thielen is a good voice but he’s slowing down on the field. Really need a skill position guy that really makes this offense something/anything notable and helps create a culture. The next maybes are Legette/Brooks/Sanders.. we’ll see what they can do. Unsure on Bryce.

    • Not exactly sure that is an honest assesment of the talent he had to work with that year. Olsen had over 1100 yards that season making the PB, Stewart had close to 1100 total yards also going to the PB. He had Kalil at C who went to the PB, Trai Turner at RG who also went to the PB, and Michael Oher at LT who played well enough that the Panthers offered him a new contract the following year. I wouldn't call that a trash OL. He also played with a defense that was stacked with talent as well.   "The thing we are doing better this time around is actually surrounding our #1 overall draft pick QB with talent vs. asking him to completely carry the offense. I just hope that effort is leading us to realize that the guy isn't even good enough to get carried." Please.... Did you not read the list of names Newton had to work with his rookie season. I guess you missed it so I will post it again for you... Steve Smith (PB), Greg Olsen (PB), Brandon LaFell, Ted Ginn JR, Deangelo Williams (PB), Jonathan Stewart (PB), Jordan Grossn (PB), Ryan Kalil (PB) on the offensive side and then he had Luke Kuechly (PB), Jon Beason (PB), Thomas Davis (PB), Star Lotulelei, Kawann Short ( PB ),Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy (PB ), Mike Mitchell, Josh Norman (PB)  For comparison, here is who Young had his first year.  Chuba Hubbard, DJ Chark, Jonathan Mingo, Adam Thielen, Hayden Hurst, Ikem Ekwonu, Chandler Zavala, Bradley Bozeman, Nash Jensen and Taylor Morton. Not a single PB player on the list and most of them aren't even playing any longer. Additionally, his HC was fired during the season and the defense was as bad as the offense.  You might not like the comparison but saying Newton had to completely carry the offense isn't exactly fair to the 4 pro bowlers on offense who played with him that year.
    • That's why I say we have to keep looking. Even if you believe Bryce is the guy, KP and Grier are not and who knows if King is anything more than a gimmick player, we should be active in improving our 2nd QB spot. Season ending injuries happen, and you don't just want to roll over and give it up. How many starters have we seen come from the ranks of backup? Having 2 potential starting QBs is one of the best problems we could have.
    • Eh, it’s more on how bad the refs are. Some of these calls against the canes are no calls
