Hypothetically speaking... comp for Dalton

It's not pretty BUT, Marvin Lewis was his head coach those years and his playoff record is 0-7. The other two years he had Carson Palmer in the playoffs and the results were the same. Not so sure its a reflection of Dalton as much as its a reflection of Lewis.

Rodgers is 40 and still slinging it coming off Achilles surgery.

And Kirk Cousins is 36 and look what the Falcons just paid him. Matthew Stafford is also 36 and while he barley got to the playoffs with the lions, he won a SB after leaving. Now I'm not saying Dalton is Rodgers or Matthews good and I am not expecting them to win the SB but I don't think his age should be a concern.

Thats what you are supposed to do with a #1 overall. If Bryce had any talent to be a franchise QB, we wouldve seen glimpses of it by now, but he has none. He was a lemon upon arrival.

number one overall or not, he wasn't ready to start/play especially with how bad the O-line was and the lack of talent at WR. Pat mahomes sat for an entire year his rookie season before playing but that didn't mean Bryce needed to sit an entire year.

You can definitely ruin a QB by having them go out there and shatter their confidence.  But Bryce wasn't ever going to be ready to play.  Like most of us on this board, he just doesn't have NFL tools unfortunately.

Well Warner was a MVP and SB MVP winning QB before his late career struggles and subsequent resurgence. Dalton has never even come close to sniffing 2nd team all pro. Also I advise optimistic fans to not look at his playoff stats if you want to remain optimistic… There may be some comparable but let’s wait to read too much into Dalton until he’s strung a few months of solid play together. Remember, no teams have film on him in Canales’ offense

Well he was a 3x Pro Bowler.....

Age isn't a concern until it just suddenly is. More of these guys go out looking like Peyton Manning(minus NFL gifted ring) than they do Tom Brady.

    • I think what makes a qb elite is when every week you think your team has a chance to win because of your qb. No matter who they play, they always make you feel like you have a chance. I have not gotten that feeling once while watching Bryce.
    • Great point!  The quotes from O'Connell about teams failing rookie Qbs and the one about how you coach them after 3 picks and a loss were really interesting.  To me, an idiot with a keyboard, it means NFL teams need to be patience if they are going to have quality QB play. So bringing me to Bryce, is there some benefit to being patient.  I know it's not a particularly popular opinion around here, and even I am having a hard time wrapping my head around it.  Most QBs, when benched lose their confidence.  It takes a LONG time to get it back.  Bryce on the other hand was benched, and came back a different player.  I feel like that's worth a lot more than the physical talents of a guys like AR15... I think Bryce has the mental make up to be a good NFL QB.  His problem will always be his tools.  Now it's on coaching to work around that.  Bryce is more physically gifted than late years Drew Brees (low bar, I know).   While I'm content to see what happens this season, there's a small part of me that says...maybe we should see what grows?  (let me duck and hide from the well earned vitriol the Panthers have earned). Then again, I agree that some guys get it while others just don't.  I'm still hoping for the Panthers and Bryce to find success this season.  But if not, I won't be too surprised if the plug is pulled and there is a restart.
