benched after only 10 NFL starts

Bryce got 18 lol.

Just goes to show, it's not worth overthinking things.  CJ Stroud checked all the boxes.  The other 2 only checked some and then came the mental gymnastics.

If you are going to draft a QB high, check the boxes.   Odds are bad enough even with all the basic boxes checked.

We have seen guys like Cam, Lamar, Russell, Manziel, RG3, Mariota, Watson, Allen, Murray, Lance, Fields, etc. that would probably fall in the category of strong armed athletic freaks that all went in the 1st round. NFL teams want that QB that has the freakish talent and hope they can fix issues they have (footwork, reading the field, etc.)

As was mentioned, the CBA since 2011 encourages this type of gamble, the reduced rookie pay.

You just named 6 Heisman winners, and Fields, Lance and Watson all who were super productive in college. Richardson was terrible at Florida. The only outlier is Allen and he’s the outlier for a reason

Stroud single-handedly keeping that 2023 QB class from being one of the worst in history. Bryce, AR, Levis, just an absolute trash pile of busts.

Without the rookie wage scale, a lot of these QBs wouldn’t have been drafted so high.

Have you looked at the 1st round QBs drafted over the last 10-15 years? It’s horrific

Yep.  Stroud was the safest pick and still had one hell of a ceiling.

Teams go nuts to get the 3rd best out of a crap class.

This is why I like retreads better, and try to promote the idea of taking a flier where you find it. Rattler was the one this year but there are guys quite often that don't cost as much t miss on and maybe you do hit.

If you listen to Brady he is right. They have made the QB position more about athleticism and less about playing chess and manipulating defenses from the pocket because they don't have the QBs developed in college like the old days.

I think teams might just need to go back to developing them themselves, more like it was when the pro style offenses were in the NFL and not in colleges.

I thought Goff was his floor. It was before Goff took his game up a notch though…

I think Mcvay fumbled that more than I first thought. Something happened in the SB and it broken the relationship. I sided with Mccvay at the time, but that's looking wrong in the last 2 years. That trade allowed the lions to become elite, cause much like the Panthers paying to play against players, rams were paying the lions 1st rounders for them to take a elite QB in Goff......its honestly not talked about enough, its a huge story.

    • Jack Roslovic: Only 2 other UFA, right-handed centers age 28 or under had more points (39) than him- Sam Bennett (51) and Pius Suter (46). There were 4 other centers age 33 and older who scored more: Gireaux (37), Marchand (37), Tavares (34), Granlund (33).  Unless the Canes go old, if they let Jack walk, they won't get a center who scored more.  Thoughts?
    • nope     This is why we come back every year.  Hope springs eternal
    • It's important to differentiate criticism and hate. I can't speak for that individual you quoted. But most people who have been critical of the Tepper's have been so because both of them have made it a point to put themselves front and center and in the middle of team operations and we have been largely horrific more often than not as a result. If people are making derogatory remarks about her that should be met with an appropriate response but if people are being defensive just because she's being criticized all I can say is people should get used to it. Both her and David would have been getting absolutely skewered by the media and the fans if this were a big market franchise. The Lakers are finally being sold off after years and years of public criticism of Jeannie Buss and even though I'm the furthest you could go from being a Lakers fan just about anyone you could meet who is familiar with the NBA would say the criticism was certainly valid.
