Can something be done about this referee bias against the Panthers?

I think it comes down to one main issue

The NFL doesn't want to market a small market teams sucess, which will sell more merchandise, Denver with Peyton Manning, or the Carolina Panthers

We are not respected in any sport except college basketball , even the national media discredits the Canes cup win because the Oils starting goalie got injured in game 1, even though he was injured by his own player driving a Cane into him trying to draw an interference call

Comes with the territory, if you are a Carolina fan, the whole world is really against you, you are not really part of the club

The merchandise sales are such an infinitesimally small portion of NFL revenue as to be completely laughable.

The NFL is as prone to wanting big market teams or traditional powers to succeed as any other major professional sport in the country.

I don't really think there is a lot of evidence of "team bias" as much as there is ample evidence of "star player bias." The NFL has suffered from that for decades. It's also not as prevalent as it is in the NBA, which is just transparently tilted towards the star players.

Overall, this season the refs have stood out more for their general incompetence rather than anything fishy. Still not as bad as some referees in professional sports(but MILES better than the glorified rec. refs that are in college sports). There does appear to be a general decline in the NFL refs this season. Haven't paid enough attention to see if it is certain crews or not.

I totally get the sentiment. It's been blatantly obvious for years now.

But if we could actually do something about it in some parallel universe where that's possible then while we were at it the Tepper's would be forced to sell and we would not be stuck with Bryce Young.

Unfortunately there's no magic wand for life. It'd be nice though.

I dont think there is a bias against the panthers but with that said I do feel nfl referees influence games.  It doesnt take much at all to change the outcome of nfl games.  Just call a penalty when a drive is stalling to extend the drive.  To make it look even call a penalty against the other team but make sure to call it at a time that it doesnt help them or hurt them from scoring.  This way penalties look even but actually they are not even at all. Would love to see someone follow nfl penalties and look at them as how they effected the game vs if they were just called but had no effect.  I think gambling has effected it alot I am not conviced alot of nfl games are not influenced maybe not completely rigged but influenced by controversial calls.  The chiefs with swifts massive following seem to get the most beneficial calls of any team ever.

I can't believe people truly believe these things.

I coached high school basketball for almost 30 years, and the number of fans who thought the refs were biased towards certain teams always made me laugh. Referees are human, and some of them aren't very good at their jobs, and an individual official might be more apt to call a certain style of play a certain way.... but goodness people. To think there's this mass conspiracy against your team is just silly.

Refs have been cheating Carolina ever since the Dallas game in 05 when Peppers blocked the field goal and was penalized for roughing the kicker.

Only got worse when Cam, an unabashedly black and cocky QB dominated the league and the old crusty ass guard of the NFL couldn’t stand that so they had to throw Manning a retirement party for SB50.

I suspect it will only really improve when we sign a big time vet with a nice story the NFL can go along with. Or Bryce Young gets better and his good guy narrative becomes plot armor for the NFL to make him the next Brees.

By this logic you would think the NFL would give us a good season due to the hurricane

NFL refs are like politicians, you have to kill them to remove them.

When Cam pulled back the wizard of Oz curtain and said  " He said I wasn't old enough for that call ". It pissed the lot of them off. They got each others back and it would take around 100 years for them to pull off the dawgs.

I thought for years RR needed to take a more direct method when dealing with those jokers, cuss them out and call out the BS. Not good old' RR, he just send in the tape and let his players get poo on.....It was total BS the treatment Cams head got as a pinata and RR never put them refs in their place cause he was pro NFL.... Im still pissed about...

    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
