This is what if feels like to me. Just like the Lions when Campbell took over, they started as a joke and then towards the end of the season they became more and more competitive, until they started winning uglier games the next season and now look at them. I feel our team is fighting hard every game and are on the edge of turning that quarter. We need one more solid draft class.

Brooks looked great today, Sanders is legit, Coker is legit, XL is getting there needs to work hard in the offseason, Trevin will be good you can tell game is just starting to slow down for him.

yeah we can do this. One more good draft on the defensive side and we’re in it.

This loss hurts.

But it hurts because this team has given us reasons to care again. In a way, that does count as an improvement, especially considering we've had four close games in a row. Just that we're going to learn some lessons the hard way like with today.

I’m always disappointed when you lose a game where you outplayed the other team for 75% of the game. The game should have never made it to OT. We get there and still have a chance to win…only to literally fumble the game away.

That said, I’m proud of the team. Carolina showed no signs of quitting despite having significant injuries and fielding one of the least talented rosters in the NFL. Bryce Young is IMPROVING. He looked awful at the start of the season. Now he looks like a legit starter since the benching. Our 2024 rookie class is the best we’ve had in years. Another strong class could put us in position to compete for division title by 2026…and possibly sooner since we play in one of the weakest divisions.

Bryce has to continue to improve. He’s showing more poise, a willingness to push the ball downfield, and better ball placement. Unfortunately, he can’t consistently throw a fade down the sidelines if his life depended on it. That has got to improve going forward. The defense gets gashed on the game too much in the running game and our pass rush doesn’t seem to show up when we need it most. We got to Mahomes last week 5 times but couldn’t get him on the last drive. Baker was able to put together 2 clutch drives to beat us today down the stretch.

We have a lot of work today, but for the first time in years I feel like the Carolina Panthers are trending up.

I may start a thread on this topic to gauge opinions. I agree with you. The defense needs to get better. If we took the best defensive player on the board with every draft pick I don’t think I’d complain at all.

I am skeptical of Bryce’s ability each week and fo the past ew weeks he has surprised me. He is doing what he needs to do to keep his job. It needs to continue forward but he seems toe improving each week.  Whether it continues will be enough is a question mark.  He looks confident and appears to be energized.
Team is losing but it looks like they have played 8 quarters of competitive football with two playoff teams. Sucks that we aren’t winning but the games are enjoyable.

I think Philly might be a buzz saw with some regression from the entire team but still looking forward to it.

He's showing he's a bottom 10 league starter at this point. There will be rookies better than him next season. A franchise QB wins on drives consistently, leads bad teams to wins against good teams, and can beat top 10 defenses in close games.

The bar is so low.

Bryce Young is a tier below Ryan Fitzpatrick. Do you think he surpasses that level, and how many years will that take?

He went toe to toe with Mahomes one week and outplayed Mayfield the next. Bryce was pretty awful until a few weeks ago but sitting and watching how to play with Dalton in was an eye opener for Bryce. He saw the windows he has to hit, the quick passing to counter a blitz and how to audible calls. Right now today he was a top 10 QB watching other games. How he plays down the road is still up in the air. But you are way off base and living in the past. Catch up to the present.

It drives me up a wall that "fans" can't see Bryce's improvement.  I'm eating crow right now.  This young team has a very bright future.  On a side note,  the Thielen non TD was the absolute worst call  I've seen in the NFL this year.  Absolutely horrible.  The PI on Evans in the first half is a very close second.  Both were pure garbage.

I mean sure, it’s reassuring this team isn’t total ass and isn’t getting blown out every game.

But now we’ve gotten back the “find EVERY possible excruciating way to lose” team and that’s also not a fun team to root for either. Are we ever going to see a winning team again? I genuinely believe the team is cursed. We’ve all seen it so many times that I don’t think it’s just crazy nonsense anymore. Even when this team is “good” they have found ways to rip your heart out. I guess that’s just what being a sports fan is all about but the Panthers are uniquely adept at losing when they’ve exhausted all possible ways to win.

We've got to keep adding talent to the roster.  Overall we are still near the bottom of the NFL in overall talent and when you have less talent then your margin for error is very small, so it comes off as finding a way to lose.

We said we wanted them to be competitive that’s what this looks like

By definition the team as a whole was more competitive. Especially the defense that had been getting a great deal of flack for weeks now.

Playcalling left a lot to be desired though. Especially on 4th down. That was pre Riverboat Ron esque and not where we want to be after hiring an offensive minded head coach.

We’ve had, what? 850 or so yards of offense over the past two weeks?

The problem hasn't been the play design or calling or QB play. It's been dropped balls and a struggling defense.

Neither Canales or BY can catch the balls. They're doing everything they can to put players in a situation to get the ball caught and moved down the field. It's on the rest of the players to do their own job.

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
