I was wrong about CMC

He's too strong for his ligaments and tendons. That doesn't change playing receiver. His injuries weren't contact related

He's glass.  Always was.  Trading him was the right decision.  I've been saying since day one San Fran was going to see the real McCaffery, and here he is ladies and gents.  They've basically gotten a season and a half out of him.

If he gets released in the next two years I wouldn't mind having him back as a weapon for Young. But Brooks might be stud by then.

I don't think he sandbagged as much as we were just cautious with his injuries and chose not to play him in questionable condition when we were out of contention. Sure wish we'd done that with Cam when we had him out there playing on a torn rotator cuff in his throwing arm when we were already eliminated from playoff contention.

I still love that CMC was a Panther and had the epic rare 1000/1000 season, despite us sucking nearly every season was here. But it's probably time for the dude to just switch to slot receiver, no offense to him or his abilities at RB.

Frank Gifford (NY Giants) and Lenny Moore (Baltimore Colts) both ended up in the Hall of Fame. Each guy entered the NFL as a dynamic running back that could catch the football. Each guy ended up being primarily a receiver by the time their career ended. Bobby Mitchell (Browns/Redskins) was a complement to Jim Brown in Cleveland as a HB before becoming a HoF receiver in Washington with Sonny Jurgenson.

This talk of CMC becoming a WR is not something to rule out. It would dramatically reduce his touches (and hits absorbed) per game, but allow him to work a lot more in space where he's always been effective. If I had that type of talent and wanted to prolong my career I'd strongly consider it.

When a RB starts having leg problems, then he is near the end. Great player and a good guy. May have to hang it up very soon.

Even if he loses his explosiveness that he used to have, he'll still be an effective slot WR with his crisp route running.  He basically would be a shorter Thielen who turns into a great possession slot WR who can be a safety valve for a QB.

Whether he wants to do that is another question, you play RB your whole life, when you can't anymore, you might just want to retire and enjoy life being married to a model, wouldn't blame him.

But even with the beating his body has gone through, I think he'd be a more than effective slot WR in this league for years to come.

CMC has been healthy for the last 2 seasons. Expecting a running back in the NFL to play every game or even most games with CMC's workload is not realistic.
