He is having a decent season with the Niners and is still young. Should they have tried to keep him and see what shakes out?

Could have used him this season definitely. Had promise as a pass rushing DE. Don't know much about his ability to set the edge. At 250, he was pretty light in the drawers. Sort of a Burns type built.

Worth a contract?

He would always have a flash game here and there, get our hopes up, then go back to the same baseline. New management usually cleans house except for just a few employees who fit the mold they want. It’s part of the culture change.

Dan is trying to recreate an old school panthers defense as he once knew it, attitude and all… only better. Dave is in charge of the offense.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they trade back and go LB in the first round after changing back over to a 4/3. They are GOING to go hard on DE.

Complete culture change.

I'm pretty sure he has 4 sacks and 3 of them came in one game.

I didn't hate him as a primary run defending Edge, but I'm not mad about letting him walk. He had one good game.

The seahawks paid Matt Flynn because he had two good games.

I hated him as a run defending Edge. WRs and TEs took his lunch money way too often with crack blocks and reaches. He wasn't good/consistent at setting the Edge. If that has improved, then he'd be much better. Same could be said for Burns.

    • Then why are they paying QBs so much compared to other players? QB are making so much it's harder and harder to pay other players. If a guy plays like 1 of 11 then there pay should be in line with that. Not all QB should be breaking the bank just because your next or a former 1st rounder There is a reason they say try to win it all on a QB rookie deal because after that they can cripple a team on what it can do. I would rather not do that for a bottom 1/3 QB. Cam and Jake have been the only QBs worth investing long term into this team has had I would rather not lower the bar. If a guy don't got the IT factor and it shows I would rather not invest long term into them and keep looking

    • I mean, I hear what y'all are saying, but Derrick could have been positive without being negative.  He essentially accused people of not seeing Bryce's improvement because of their desire to not be wrong. He could've kept it about Bryce and the team. For example, he could've said: "Bryce has made strides, and we believe in him. This coming season, his continued improvement will turn a lot of people into believers."  That would've been supportive of his teammate and sent a message to the doubters. That being said, his tact almost summoned and left the door ajar for more skepticism. That's my take anyway. Bryce has improved from the bottom to perhaps skirting the line between the bottom third and mid-third at best...after three seasons. We've all seen it. Yay! In my mind, Bryce has still got a long way to go and a short time to get there, but my expectations are top five--at least top 10--always! Yes, I am a fan, so there's that, but I don't believe it's unreasonable to expect excellence. Hopefully the Panthers FO has the same mindset (and that doesn't even necessarily have anything to do with what we gave up to acquire him). That is the lens I'm looking through. Derrick Brown has his homer glasses on. He just needs to be more diplomatic and thoughtful with his words in my opinion, but I get it that he's a good teammate.
