XL is good people.  He just exudes his real authentic self.

Now he comes across as a hard worker.  He's not a finished product at age 23/24, but he's still a young man.  My hope is that XL can reflect and get better this off season.  If I'm Bryce, I'd definitely connect with him and work on developing that chemistry.

On his own, XL needs to be coached up on hands catching.  I know it's a hard habit to break, but he's got to do a better job of using his hands instead of allowing the ball to travel into his body to make these middle catches.

My hope is that XL grows a lot for year two!  If not, he'll find himself pushed down the depth chart by less talented guys.  I'm rooting for him!!!

Giving up on a player after their first year is the kind of craziness you expect from fanatics.  Plenty said Derek Brown was a bust after 3-4 games.  Let's give him a chance.  I was disappointed with the drops for sure, but not ready to write him off.  He was sure handed in college and was great at going up and high pointing the ball.  I will reserve judgement until after next season.

I don't think he is nearly as bad as many huddles want to make him out to be

True--you have to compare him to the others and see where he fits in--

In addition, if you recall, Chuba had terrible hands during his first year or two.  He worked at it.  I was impressed with Legette's route running and I was unimpressed with his hands.   I have a feeling he will work on it.  In addition, a WR who has a bad QB, change to a QB who has different timing, and then back to the original, reborn QB--it is a bit problematic for some.

Legette is a big WR.  when he steps up, with his speed, he is going to be a stud.

Sure for Coleman, but I don't agree re: McConkey. Ladd is a slot guy while XL + Keon are outside WRs.

There are plenty of outside wide receivers in the modern NFL who aren't big body possession type guys.

There are, but a majority of McConkey's snaps have been taken in the slot while XL has been on the outside.

With the way they're deploying McConkey, he's getting more of the AT treatment while XL is being asked to do more of what Quenton Johnston is doing (being big and taking the tops off of defenses).

100% true. 89 had the body of a slot WR.  But there are still WRs who just naturally fit in the slot vs the outside and there is a pretty stark difference in performance.  Welker is a good example of that IMO.

Yea one of the biggest reason people think you need to be a big body receiver to play outside is getting off of press but there are plenty of little guys that can get off press.  A lot of the best receivers in the league are definitely 6' or less.  Prioritizing height and weight with receivers is an old school mentality imo

I love XL and will always defend him since he’s an S.C. guy but totally missing on Brian Thomas Jr is brutal.

We never had a chance to draft him. Unless you’re suggesting we should have traded up even further for him.

xl Should be compared to Keon Coleman and McConkey vs any of the first round receivers (and specifically Coleman due to the pick swap)

Coleman is a tossup. McConkey certainly looks like the better pick currently but I’d argue he was in a much better position this year with stability at the qb position.

XL has much more room for improvement and in the long run should be more dominant. Ladd was very good this year and will be very good on that team but I dont think he will get much better than what he is already. Not saying he is at his ceiling by any means, but he is what he is.

    • The OP for one. Asserting that people blamed Bryce for the loss in the title of the thread. That was not the prevailing sentiment at the time this thread was created. Very much a minority thing, I don’t remember but maybe one person if that, putting it on Bryce as the main reason. Troll thread. Did a good job too. Look at the pages.  Someone counting up the draft picks as 10 on offense and 10 on defense or whatever the number was, today or yesterday - of which the offensive ones were heavily 1s and 2s and the defensive picks were heavily day 3 and declaring that proof that the offense wasn’t favored like people claim. The obvious neglect we watched for two years. I spent time refuting that bullshit because someone needed to.  People saying we are bad horrible people and hate poor lil Bryce for no reason, as if it is a personal thing. Constantly.   Along the same lines is people saying we non Bryce fans would rather lose than have him play well and the team wins. That we are mad when the team wins   Point illustrated.
    • Might not have been in this specific thread... As far as the other, I'm not necessarily reading every post that isn't responding to me so I don't think I saw that. Mind you, we've certainly seen the "not a real fan" stuff on here before.
