Yeah.  It's missing the context of his scrambling in the middle of defenders. I don't think it's fair to "slide" like that, and then for defenders that aren't even trying to hit him to barely graze him....

It's similar to the Kenny Pickett fake slide.  You can't allow QBs to do that, and you can't allow a QB to begin a slide when a tackler is already in the motion of hitting him.  It's too late at that point.

Well, I won't say that the refs never have an impact.  But I think it is greatly overblown.

That being said, I do think with star players like Brady, Mahomes, Montana etc..., I do think there is a tendency to favor them, albeit subconciously.  I do remember many years ago when Tim Duncan played for Wake, Coach K was asked if Duncan got the calls from the Refs.  K said, yeap, and he deserves them.

While I don't necessarily agree that a star deserves the calls, I do think there is an unconscious tendency towards favoritism.  Just human nature I suppose.

Sure they’ve had some games where calls go more in their favor but also plenty of games where calls don’t go in their favor, just like all teams. I think there is a slight bias towards bigger markets (which KC is not) but otherwise it’s just random and refs not being good/consistent in general.

Specifically with roughing the passer, it’s just the reality these days that franchise QBs get those calls. The league is so offense/passing dependent these days for betting, fantasy, what your average fan wants, etc. that they are over the top with trying to keep those 1st/2nd tier QBs healthy. But this isn’t all that new at all. Brady, Manning, Big Ben, Brees, Rodgers, etc. have always gotten those calls too. And today it’s true for Lamar, Allen, Burrow, etc. In fact I saw a stat recently that Allen has benefitted more from penalties than Mahomes this year, and yet nobody talks about that — because it’s the Chiefs beating them all the time.

I can’t stand the modern NFL dependence on passing and protecting QBs/not letting teams play defense, but it’s the reality and it’s fair across the board. Well unless your QB is a scrub, but then you’re not winning anyways most likely.

At least you can't penalize if a defender is clearly easing up etc... just such bullshit to penalize players like that. Mahomes is clearly manipulating refs too (see the sideline slow up to try to draw a late hit penalty). He's an incredible QB and he wins regardless but it really annoys me.

I still think the NFL has major favoritism. As long as they like BY9, we might be ok in Carolina

I watched maybe 6 or 7 Chiefs games during the regular season and they were ALL ridiculous biased in favour of KC. The Carolina game funny enough was the only one that I felt was actually fair overall.

I guess Cam was a scrub

Personally, once a QB gets past the line of scrimmage, they should only get the same protections any other player on offense would have.

I would take it a step further and say that should be true whenever they’re outside the pocket too. But will never happen.

Damn Washington!!

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
