The draft is a gamble.

It is but dayum, maximize  your chances buy getting someone who can at very least walk onto the field... I will start ragging Morgan if he pulls this crap again...

Especially a position you can get a solid player at in the 5th round. If it was an elite QB or Pass rusher that fell to the 2nd because of injury I would get it, we shouldn't have even been looking at healthy running backs in the 2nd considering all of our needs in other areas.

I just hope they learn from it.

True, but when you use a pick on a guy that already has a major injury, its a much bigger gamble.

fug man. Every human breaks. Every human gets injured. I get it, we drafted a running back on recovering knee. This sure feels worse than drsfting a healthy player that doesn't make the cut, or loses his knee in rookie season.

They tried to sneak a number 1 pick in the second round. Bit them. I have little doubt that several other teams were planning to take him within ten picks of when we did. BUT i think those risks Are unnecessary given the positional value. I could better understand a gamble on an OT, DE, etc.

Well, I'm always for the team doing their best to aquire talent.  So I'm alright with it. It's the way of life in the NFL.

We’ve done such a poo job bringing on draft talent for years now. “Doing their best” has been terrible and we continue to take risky, old and raw talent and it’s not working. It amazes me when people are happy with the results and defend the team with every move. Morgan needs to knock this draft out of the park or we’ll continue to win participation trophies.

Brooks wasn’t a first rounder and the ACL was too risky considering the 2025 RB class was loaded and there were several day 3 guys in the draft that looked like a great compliment.

I had no issue with drafting him he's very talented. My issue is bringing him back at all this year this year was always going to be struggle Street. Should of let the man heal for longer

I agree that it was dumb to risk it but his ACL was likely to tear and it would have sucked more if it happened week 1 2025. That said you should have an issue with drafting him in round 2 if you thought he shouldn’t play in 2024. If he’s not going to play then you have to compare him to the 2025 RB draft class and with the talent and depth, Brooks wasn’t likely a 3rd or more likely a 4th based on injury risk in 2025.

Uninjured he was seen as one by some teams, certainly early second. Especially pre injury. So not sure what your babbling about.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
