Meet Our New MLB - Danny Stutsman

Scouting Report: Summary

Stutsman profiles as a throwback downhill linebacker who will make his biggest impact as an early-down run defender and blitz weapon. His instincts and physicality in the box give him immediate value against the run, while his special teams experience provides a clear path to early playing time.

The athleticism and frame are there for him to develop into more, but he'll need significant technical refinement in coverage to earn three-down trust at the next level. Smart defensive coordinators will protect him early by limiting his coverage responsibilities while unleashing him as a blitzer in sub packages.

The team that drafts Stutsman will be getting a culture-setting presence whose intensity and work ethic will elevate the linebacker room from day one. While he may never be elite in coverage, his ability to impact the run game and rush the passer gives him clear value as a rotational piece with upside to develop into a quality starter in the right scheme.

he looks disciplined and smart. I wonder how well he does in coverage.

Sneaky athletic too, first-in-last-out gym rat that brings his lunchpail every day...

In all seriousness, that play at the 0:27 mark reminds me of Luke's preseason play vs the Ravens where he sifted through the trash moving laterally and just attacked upfield. Vital attribute for an MLB in today's NFL.

    • I think Indiana will win it all but Miami should give them a much better fight than Oregon did.
    • When I tell people I was at that game, they usually say oh that’s so cool you had the experience. I call it soul crushing. Why? The weeks and months leading up to it were great, the team was fun to watch every week…some weeks the offense was unstoppable and carried the team (saints and giants road games), other times the defense carried the load (jaguars, tampa). Lots of back and forth games against good teams (Seattle and Indy). Good young players on the team, but the veteran leadership was incredible…from Cam, Olsen, Kalil and J Stew to Luke, TD, Norman, Tillman, Jared Allen, CJ. Role players like Fozzy Whitaker, Cotchery (he caught that MFer), Philly brown, Kyle love, AJ Klein, and so on.  The Friday before the nfc championship my wife and I after a few drinks said let’s see what prices look like for flights/accommodations and we got to talking about how much prices would increase if we waited until we found out if we would be in the big game. We said screw it, we are only out $200 if we have to cancel.  Of course we come out and just pulverized the cardinals in front of the most raucous crowd by far we’ve ever had. We had no idea what we would do for game tickets and then found out a neighbor who worked for the team could get us 2 for face value (each employee got two of their own for free, something cool that JR did).  But then the NFL mafia decided that the storyline of manning going out on top like Elway would give them more goodwill than a non traditional QB who didn’t connect with their target demo and the rest is history. I never have and never will watch that game again. I am just hoping I can see them win one in the 2nd half of my life.
