How is trading for a guy who normally wouldn't come here a benefit? If he doesn't want to be here forcing them to through a trade is not a recipe for success.

He comes here because he has a  new contract and likely a new start. Look at Theilen, he was tailing off and now he is revitalized in a new place. How many guys get traded who are doing great and perfectly content  where they are? Maybe DJ when we traded him but he went there with a chip on his shoulder to prove we shouldn't have traded him.  So they usually have good motivation to excel one way or the other. Sometimes positive sometimes to prove someone wrong. But we get a motivated guy usually.

Really comes down to the contract numbers. That said, I've had Slayton as the more realistic FA receiver we could aim for. He would bring speed which we're desperately lacking, he's been durable, and everything I heard about him says he's a great culture fit and mentor. Definitely would cover having that veteran presence around once Thielen retires.

Giants WR Darius Slayton expects “a lot of interest” in free agency
New York Daily News’ Pat Leonard named the Chargers, Panthers, and Steelers as potential suitors for the veteran wideout. Slayton, 28, expects to garner attention from teams that need to add speed to their roster. He led the Giants in receiving in four of his six seasons in New York, with 21 career touchdowns. In the Giants’ Week 5 win over Seattle this past season, with rookie sensation Malik Nabers sidelined due to a concussion, Slayton had eight catches and 122 receiving yards. Slayton said his goal is to land with a winner, “somewhere where they’re striving to be competitive and that the goal is to win.”

Sportrac's projection is even worse on a per year basis.

This is for a guy who basically put up Legette level numbers last year and half the fanbase is ready to write him off as a bust. LOL

He can fug right off somewhere else for that kind of money.

I dont know how much he was impacted by poor QB play, but it always seemed like the Giants were trying to push him out the door/keep him on the bench. Hes probably a WR 3 or 4 at his best, even on this roster. I'd rather draft a WR or take a chance on Elijah Moore.

Malik had over 1200 yards. You could argue he took targets away from Slayton. But if a rookie is taking your burn, then you're not worth a $10M+ a year contract.

To me this is why Tyler Warren makes much more sense as a George Kittle esque addition. There's just not a lot of quality in the FA class or the draft IMHO on a game changing WR

I really liked taylor (LSU) at the combine.  I think he will be special.  And I think, if you had a meter that showed how much you improve with each player, a stud TE might move the needle more than a deep threat WR--just speculating

    • Not sure how much he was a long term piece of this team.   Sucks to not have him as part of the rotation.   Looks like it's Lee Hunter time.
    • This post was an error. Oops and sorry for the errors in the previous one. Too slow to edit.   We’ll see what they do.
    • I am not sure he will put the over the games but we’ll probably have them.   Two things I am thinking.  We have 4 preseason games.  All the coaches have enough service time to know the standards that are in place for decades. If I recall it was play your starters just a series to start woth and build it up until week theee where play a lot and you have week four to set hour roster. Evaluate before cuts.   Bevell will certainly have the whole thing down pat.   I’d they don’t do the fries and frie air will worry too. Because it is set up to do that.     I have said since they went t three preseason people have to figure a new way are still feeling it out and trying things.  We don’t have to this year.
