So what is your draft strategy after today?

There was never a move in FA that was going to change my mind.

DL please. Graham is still my dream pick, but no move in FA was going to make me not want to address DL.

Agreed...I coming around more to taking Graham even tho we just signed a bunch od DTs. I wasn't as high as first but we can use a deep d line rotation and it's means derrick brown wont be playing 100% of the snaps.

Same as before.  BPA.  Free agents are to fill needs and draft is to add talent.  Who we signed so far shouldn't affect draft at all.  That's basically a textbook way to have a bad draft.

Tyler Warren will be the pick.

That's what I'd do and that's what the tea leaves are reading right now.

I just don't see it happening, personally. Teams fill gaps in FA to line up BPA in draft, that was a known thing prior to the signings. I don't see them pivoting post-signings. Though, I know some wanted Warren even before FA started. I just don't see Warren as BPA at 8 for the Panthers and I could be very wrong here. All speculation of course because how would i know for a fact who is where on Panthers board.

I kinda see him as BPA at 8. The problem is that I also see him as BPA at around five and six and seven, too.

That has me worried.

Best player, whatever position, can make a team. This guy is one of those who can do it and we desperately need some of those folks.

I think First Round goes something like

1. Ten - Ward or Carter

2. Cle - Ward or Carter

3. NYG - Hunter

4. NE - Tet

5. Jax - Graham

6. LV - Jeanty

7. NYJ - Sanders or Edge

8. Car- Got to be Warren.  I'd love to trade back because 10. Chi, 11. SF, and 13. MIA all need OTs, but if we drop below NO at 9, they will snag Warren.

Taking any potential options off the board is the dumbest poo in the world. Sometimes you're on the clock and don't see great value on the board and if the phone is ringing with offers that you see more value in than the talent available then you're crazy to just pick a player because that what we do here in this organization!

You can have your strategy and I can have mine bro. Respect your opinion and I never said you don’t pick up the phone if someone calls. But initiating a trade back indicates lack of preparation. Especially in the first round.

Id like for nothing more than us to take him at 8 and he's a stud. But the miss rate is so high on TE. That worries me. But a true number 1 target would be awesome.

How does it indicate a lack of preparation? You have your allotted time on the clock. Pulling a Gettleman and submitting your pick instantly may signal bravado and confidence but all it really means is that you didn't explore all options available.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
