So what is your draft strategy after today?

I’m still taking Graham if he’s there.

How many DT’s do we need? We already have D Brown, Wharton, Bobby Brown, A Robinson, Tuttle, Ray all under contract. That would be a poor allocation of resources with how many other holes we have. That’s a lot of $$ on the sideline watching.

Mine has never changed, T-Mac no matter what.

I also just don't get the love affair with Walker, especially at 8.

He's more MLB than Edge right now and he's no Kuechly.  He's not going to make an immediate significant pass rush improvement in year 1, if he's going to turn into an elite edge rusher, it's going to take him a few years to bulk up and just play more (he basically only has 1 year of playing time in college).

He's a low floor, high ceiling, raw prospect, which I'm not against taking in general, but I'd like them to have more of a true position, or at least, be more of an Edge than a MLB, not the other way around.

Wharton DT: ranked in lower half of league in run d; 6.5 sacks last year.

Jackson CB: good pairing w/ JC Horn.

Moehrin S: second on team w/ 104 tackles.

Jones LB: 7 sacks last year with only one start so he can get to the qb.

Brown DT: will fit the D nicely as a nose that can eat up blocks and stop the run.

Tremble: hoping he continues to improve as a pass catcher.

Corbett: bring back the oline that helped Bryce.

Man we opened up our options in this draft. Obviously still need a lot of help but it doesn't feel quite as desperate. I might have to change my opinion on Tet.  Still wouldn't mind a trade back scenario.

I think they are still wanting to beef up the front 7. Particularly with pass rushers. Really depends on how the board falls. I'd love to have several good options and be able to trade down a little bit. I could also see us getting Will Johnson, Tyler Warren, or Tet McMillan

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
