Could be a smokescreen or ‘water is wet’

Canales stopped by the set of Up & Adams on Monday, at the site of the league's annual meetings in Palm Beach, Fla. Host Kay Adams asked him about the potential direction of the eighth overall selection.

‘To be in this position, in my mind, when you have an opportunity to pick in the top 10 of the draft, we're doing all the work on making sure we identify the best available player," Canales replied. "We've had some great conversations about some offensive playmakers in this class, some defensive playmakers—and we've come away with saying, 'Ok, look, we are going to get a great player. Let's make sure we have the right guy, the right fit. Somebody that we want to be a Panther for a long time.' So that's really where our conversations are."

Disappointed with Canales' initial lack of details, Adams then prodded for more. And after a little banter about needing a wide receiver, Canales dug a bit deeper.

"We have to address the needs on defense first," he added. "We're 32nd in the NFL in defense, and that's something where our focus has gone to—to make sure that we can play good, balanced, complementary football‘

Canales also said the following: "DK," he said. "We had the conversations. There were some interesting conversations that came up over the last couple of weeks."

I'm not liking the Edge guys after Carter for us at #8. As long as we take BPA NOT Edge, I'm good.  I feel they are overvalued and under-performing.  Not super crazy about Walker either, but I'd prefer him over Stewart, Scourton, Williams  and Pearce.

Giving details would be insane.  Best to play it close to the vest and ensure we don't give any clues as to who we might take.

I wished Canales would have trolled him and just said we're taking a kicker in the first round

      And, yes, I've been a slow boil, but watching continually watching shitty displays of football for weeks has me frustrated.

      Bryce just didn't maximize Hunter Renfrow's skills. ***rant incoming*** But this isn't just about Bryce Young mistiming passes to Renfrow so bad that he's going to get Renfrow killed or hurt, this is also about incompetentence by Dave Canales. Renfrow can still play. He's putting DBs in a blender out there---making them play twister at the top of routes to keep up with him, and dumb Dave has the nerve to cut him. How about putting Hunter in the best position to help the damned offense by appreciating his skill set, DC? You're letting Bryce's apparent inability to make an accurate throw, or at least his timidity to push the ball down the damned field cloud your judgment and miscalculate talent---or maybe just miss on talent just as much as Bryce misses passes due to playing pussified football. It's fúcking unacceptable.  Speaking of misjudgment, I don't know if it's Dan Morgan or Canales, but Eijiro Evero is not the business at DC. I have said a few times that his scheme is not conducive to run-stopping efficiency. Hell, and after watching some clips of plays, now I absolutely know why. The gaps are at least half open before the play even fúcking starts. You are setting the opposition's RBs up for success with too much damned space at the line and in the second level. If our guys are taken out in these areas---at the line and in the second level---then the defense is screwed because it must rely on the safeties to cover too much ground to make the tackle. At least put Ransom in who is motivated to seek and destroy if you're going to effectively leave the safeties on an island.  And speaking of rookies, get our two new defensive ends more snaps to see if we can't generate more of a pass rush. For all the good the continued sorry display of defense that you're putting out for fan's to see (Ejiro, Dave and Dan), you may as well get the rookies generously involved. Fúck that money we gave second-rate (maybe second-rate) vets, we need a damned spark getting after the QB. Watch it, it's just another breakdown of the sh¡t we were subjected to last week. I say this with all respect: Fúck you, Dave! Fúck you, Dan! Learn how to run a fúcking franchise. Maximize the players, regardless of what you think you're supposed to do by the book. Cut the dead weight before another season is lost and fans lose interest in September. EE is "Ew!" Or for emphasis "EEw!" /end rant
