I dont know why so many people are worried about this signing. There is literally no risk to the team on this. It a 'throw s#it at the wall and see what sticks" kinda move.

Maybe he becomes a great redzone option? Maybe he gets cut before training camp?

Shake the tree and see what falls out.

Rugby players for running backs and then sign Messi to be the FG kicker.

The tush push started as a rugy play.  The eagles actually brought in rugby coaches to help coach it, sooo you're not necessarily making the argument you think you are.

I think Graham played football at U of M, Gates did not play at his school

Gates didn’t play football in college but Saban recruited him to play at Michigan St. Saban didn’t want him to play basketball in college so he went to Kent St. It wasn’t like Gates had never played football. He just didn’t play in college. Graham did play a year of football at Miami.

Well, it can be annoying when we don’t even draft well. If we drafted well, no one would care but we don’t. I remember one year Marty 2.0 decided to go XFL hunting and not one of them ever did anything. I’m sure there were UDFAs that actually did something that year. We have a lot of day 3 picks. Personally, I’d like every single second of offseason time to be spent on actually making a successful day 3 pick for once without having Mrs. Rhule show our scouts how to do it.

Cam Newton should quit smoking get back in shape and play TE.

Physical Attributes:
Newton's size (6'6", 250 pounds) and athleticism (4.59 speed, 35-inch vertical jump) make him a strong candidate for a "move tight end" role, similar to players like Jimmy Graham.

I know. I know. It's still nice to daydream about poo.

I mean drafting at the best of times is a crap shoot. The entire NFL is not good at it (AKA Brock Purdy).

Also we (the Huddle collective) always think we know better. When we drafted "Mrs Rhules" pick, AKA Chuba, the entire collective here thought it was a terrible pick.

Im mainly memeing in here, other teams had offers and camp invites.

I've listened to gates on a pod and he was asked how? Gates said the best thing he had going was he wasn't taught how to play TE in college. NFL taught him the right ways first.  Paired with being a great learner and toughness, He became a HOFer. He also gave props to Rivers. Like many things its a combo of perfect timing, luck, talent, and just plain hard work.

I mean is a division II UDFA is a better signing for the 90, maybe....both have insane odds to overcome.

Chuba was a 4th round pick. That's where you're supposed to take a shot at that position. Who other than a few knuckleheads were truly mad about the pick?

As far as overall the last several years the sad truth is some people in the fanbase could have made better choices in the draft. That's not hyperbole or a hot take. We have been dreadful.

It’s not a crap shoot. Sorry, but I hate when people say that. We aren’t just unlucky. We have been terrible since the 2017 draft. There seem to be good teams that draft well overall and it’s not just luck. Taking TMJ in 2021 over the best C in the draft or taking injured Johnathan Brooks over a BPA C the year before a historic RB deep draft when we needed a C of the future both times is being stupid. The teams that grabbed the Cs right after we passed where KC and Pittsburgh who seem to know what they are doing.

We (the draftniks on this board) have absolutely been better than the GMs/scouts from 2018-2024. I’m sorry again but if you’ve actually followed the draft discussions, it’s been 100% true.

Also, just an FYI, the whole reason most people poo on our picks in 2021 was because our OL sucked and Fitterer’s response to that was to ignore the guys like Slater and Darrisaw in the 1st (PFF graded Slater 2nd and Darrisaw 11th among tackles in 2024), Humphrey in the 2nd (PFF 2nd rated C) and take a long snapper over Trey Smith (PFF 14th rated G). Add in Moton and another young G drafted day 3 in 2023 or 2024 and we could have easily had the best OL in the NFL. Slater, Smith, Humphrey, 2nd round G and Moton. That’s what pissed U.S. officials about the 2021 draft when we said nah, we good with Cam Erving and Pat Elflein and just taking an old BC and a terrible overweight Deonte Brown.

See my post above. Any pissed off people were likely pissed because we again ignored OL in yet another draft and signed poo in FA. I might have also been pissed by every pick from Hubbard on that we still wouldn’t take a chance on Trey Smith.

    • Looking like it might be game 7 for Pitt and Phi. Philly is spent. I like more rest for the canes
    • Moton is the man through and through. 2 things I'll always give Gettleman credit for, 1 is drafting Moton, the other is building a SB contending roster and blowing it up in one off-season
    • Kurb is still alive and well.  I’m still friends with him on all of the social media.  He truly is a great man!  That’s my bro!  He always looked out for me since the early days of the huddle.  It definitely makes me sad that he just quit posting here, but that’s life.  He still shares his takes on social media and X, but a lot of the huddle vets just grew tired of this format and the environment, I guess?  It’s a lot of guys that were valuable contributors here that just stopped posting but are still alive and passionate Panthers fans.  Blindsite used to post huge write-ups and was a well-respected poster and then just disappeared.  We had one of these type threads several years ago and he checked back in and explained he just lost the motivation to stay active here.  It was amazing hearing from him again…   I signed up in 04 after coming over from the Charlotte.com boards and been here ever since.  (For those that don’t know - this is Proudiddy - had to change the name very recently due to ‘ol tootsie roll penis and the bad press 😂).  I’m forever thankful for all of you, even those who I haven’t had the greatest history with, I still appreciate yall.  Many have come and gone, both figuratively and literally, and that has put a lot into perspective over the years.  I went from a young, newly married, wide-eyed twenty year-old guy with a baby on the way, to a now forty-two year-old guy, recently divorced and newly re-married guy with my oldest baby now an adult and 5 more kids since.  And what ride it has been!  You guys have been a much bigger part of my life than I really care to acknowledge.😂
