Dan Morgan on Jadeveon Clowney: “we’re still working through the roster”

Recommended Posts

Yea I dont think we will be keeping DJ Johnson, Pat Jones, DJ Wonnum, Jadeveon Clowney, Amare Barno, Nick Scourton, and Princely Umanmeilen on the same final 53 man roster.

Im pretty sure we might have some other dudes at edge as well that im not recalling.

All I will say is Wonnum was solid when he was healthy. Otherwise, that is a room full of JAGs not counting our two drafted guys. One of them could push to start immediately if theyre good enough.

We had such a poo defense they should let the best man win in training camp for the starting OLB positions.

Who else was out there last year besides the above 4 on the roster? Felt like one of those years where I only knew half the D players on the field lol.

Trust me man, we had some random ass dudes playing on defense near the end of the year.

I would hesitate putting rookies ahead of Clowney in April.

Definitely we want to get these guys into camp and go from there. Clowney is 32 though. Just have to weigh options.

There is a part of me that wants to hang on to Clowney. Providing a solid veteran presence might help the young guys if we turn out to be a decent team.  Or if he plays decent this year, but we are not in playoff contention, then we can trade him to a contender for a draft pick or two when the trading deadline approaches.

That being said, if we need the cap space, so be it.

If morgan can get anything for him then do it but out right cutting him would be a bit weird

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
