PFF raves about our draft. The best class in the whole draft?

This came out 6 hours ago. I watched the draft on the PFF stream and I kept adding their comments about picks here during the draft when people were still taking everything in and getting upset about some of these picks because they weren't who most people were wanting at the time and even during the draft every pick they were saying how great it was. Now in this recap they continue their praise. The host thinks all of these picks can contribute for us immediately and our team just got much better. It's a fun watch because as a panther fan, I like all of you am not used to having such praise fall upon our Panthers. There were no buts or good player but a reach, bad value nothing. It's 100% this draft rocked for Panthers. Enjoy.

I think it was better than last year's.  I still wouldn't call it great.   I would say pff loved it and we took high pff guys because Eric Eager's fingerprints were all over this draft.   I think that's a good thing.

during the draft I had concerns....after the draft and reading about our picks, I feel very good.  There was a lot of love for our draft this year, and we're not used to that.

Last year was not so much but if Legette grows, and if Brooks can get healthy and stay that way, and Sanders develops, it was a good draft.  But I just feel different this year, more confidence than ever, but it's that time of the year....every fan of every time is feeling better about who they pull for.

That said, I'm liking Morgan a lot right now.  It won't be hard for him to become our best GM ever....low bar.  But he can set it higher.

He was seated right next to Morgan, looked to be in the thick of things when picks were being made, and I even saw him dialing the number for at least one guy we were drafting. If this draft works out, we may have a new process of selecting players. Analytics like Eager's may change how scouting is done (or what is asked of scouts) in the future. Data processes the player, scouts may analyze the person.

I feel much better about this draft than I did after last year's draft. I'm not sure if it's because I went into this draft with a different mindset than I have in previous years or it's because read their draft guide and I could put each pick into a perspective but I don't think so.

Every year there are always players that I really don't feel enthusiastic about. Usually is the super athletic guys that get drafted because they won the underwear Olympics but  we didn0t do that this time. Each player has performed well on the field at something that we need.

I like that approach. Most guys won't become elite players but we don't need that. We just need player who are really good at these different things but that don't have to be the same player. When we want to rush from this side we use the player who does that well. Then on the next play we want to stop the run on this side so we play better than average level and not try to find the players who maybe can do everything we every pick. It's the the RB by committee approach but at other positions and it makes sense IF you have the depth to do it. How do you get the depth to do it? By drafting players who you are sure can do at least 1 of these things at a high level.

Yea, i honestly think he had almost as much say as Dan.  One of the main reasons I think that is Eager has said before he was ever with the Panthers, that you trade away picks for a qb and for any other position you do pick swaps, and that's exactly what we did.

Strongly disliked last year's draft

I believe this new approach will field MUCH better results than what we've been getting

Please understand that our head of analytics as of last May is the former head of analytics for PFF. There is probably going to be a lot of praise from PFF for most of our roster moves simply because we're probably using a lot of the very same analytical metrics. And PFF sure is rooting for our success because if we keep going down our flailing path it's really going to devalue PFF's analytical system.

    • How am I all over the place?  I'm still saying that. I'm saying that Chark at his best and T-Mac right now, on the same team right now for the 2025 season, T-Mac would be ahead of him on the depth chart Week 1. Because in the same way everyone is saying, "T-Mac hasn't played a snap in the NFL yet", the very same is true to say, "nothing Chark did in his past matters moving forward" His peak was a 1,008 yard season where he was the only decent WR on a terrible team.  He didn't put up the 1k yard season because he was a great WR, it was because of how bad the rest of them on the team were. His stats aren't the same as his ability, and his ability was never all that good to begin with. Hell, most of this board agrees that T-Mac is our #1 right now, even if Thielen is Bryce's #1 option early in the saeson just because of the comfort level there, he's still just a slot safety valve and T-Mac is our #1. If you put peak Chark on the roster RIGHT NOW (even without T-Mac)... is anyone even putting him over Thielen, XL, or Coker going into this season? I'm honestly not sure many of us would consider him as such, because even at his best, he was just a JAG.  So if the same people who are okay with T-Mac being ahead of those guys right now, wouldn't put Chark above them, how can you in the same breath say Chark was better than T-Mac already is now?
    • Dude... you're just all over the place. You're the one who said T-Mac is better right now than Chark was at his best.
    • When I say "average NFL WR", for me, that's comparing him to all WRs in the league during that season/span of time.  He was of course better than those #4-6 WR's that can't even get on the field, but talent/ability wise, he probably wasn't any better than a #3 WR for most NFL teams, he just happened to be on one of the teams in 2019 with even worse WR's so he put up solid stats for the season. Here's more or less how I'm looking at it. Take T-Mac right now and Chark at his best, put them on every NFL team at this very moment, and where would they fall on the depth chart come Week 1 (basically, the teams that don't put the rookies at #1 to "make them earn it in camp" don't count, it's projecting week 1 depth charts). T-Mac would be at worst the #2 WR on the majority of teams this season, (hell, he's likely our #1 at this very moment right now already), peak Chark would not.  Yes, T-Mac still has to prove himself at this level, but his current ability, even as a rookie who hasn't played a snap yet, would have him above Chark on any team's week 1 depth chart. Because again, you can't just fall back on "well Chark had a 1,000 yard season" and use that as the reason for having him above T-Mac.  As he didn't have that 1k yards because he was a beast, it was because he was the only halfway decent receiving option on a bad team that was always losing and passing the ball (the Jags had the 7th worst scoring differential that season).
