Xavier Legette is the face of the NFL at the Kentucky Derby

Smitty is going to invite him to the film room so he can punch him in the nose

Legette wouldn’t get hurt a bit. He can’t even catch Smith’s hands.

In b4 someone says he needs to hit the juggs machine

You joke, but hasn't basically the whole team been in Charlotte this past week together?

I'm not one to see the random dumb stuff players put out on social media in the offseason and think it means that's ALL they've been doing and not working on their game.  But it's a little strange that all this is coming out at the same time we're seeing tons of stuff with the team in Charlotte together, even if it's just working out and not even official team OTA's or anything.

So he gets a pass from me saying anything now, but if he doesn't show clear improvement this season, it then opens him up to some retroactive criticism for some things.

I have more faith in XL improving than I do in Tmac being a true number 1 recuever

This was an NFL appearance, not Xavier at the Derby on his own accord

Speaking of horse racing, if you don't realize how dominant Secretariat was, go back and watch his Belmont Stakes. Only four other horses even bothered to show. He won by like a quarter of a mile. He still holds the record for the fastest Kentucky Derby. He won by two and a half lengths which doesn't sound all that impressive until you realize that the the second place horse is still the second fastest Derby time ever and only other horse to finish in under two minutes. Every horse in this year's Derby was a direct descendent of Secretariat. His Kentucky Derby time would've translated to winning by about 15 horse lengths yesterday.

The NFL didn't force him to go do it, so while he partnered with the league on it, yes, he was there on his own accord.

And again, I'm not saying it's a problem for him to be there, but in retrospect, if he doesn't show improvement this year, things like this would be a bad look to do this while the rest of the team is in Charlotte the past few days.

I have no problem with players building their own brand off the field, but given how visible he's been this offseason doing random/weird stuff, he better back it up with improved play, that's all.

I feel like it's impossible not to like and root for this guy. Seems like a fantastic teammate to have around too. Hopefully he and TMac will be having a good time motivating one another to up their respective game.

    • This is about getting open and YAC....and the QB we have.  You basically are just highlighting average depth when targeted vs 2 players. .  And yeah, I often say AT is a small slow reliable TE in terms of what he does for us.   That's what he is.   I think a couple of you want to make this into a Renfrow argument.   I'm a Renfrow fan.  Renfrow does not check the box of what a BY O needs either at the slot.  Renfrow just a niche roleplayer at this level.  it's easy to look up how horrific AT is with the ball in his hands and in terms of getting open.....and it's also easy to look up what a low ceiling of an offense the steady AT diet produces w/ BY.
    • The one time he's actively tried to lose was the best we've ever done.
    • I simply acknowledge BY is the QB.  And just like we did when we drafted him.....the type O you would need to setup around him for success was always pretty simple.  But we have done virtually the opposite.  XL dropping some passes isn't why we were ranked the 32nd O and 30th passing the past 2 years.  *Ricky Prohel was brought up only in regards to role function he served on the team.  Niche/specialist.   He wasn't eating up the snaps in the O.    AT should have a similar snap %. People could MAUL Ricky Prohel and put hands all over him.   We got to the Super Bowl in part because we were mauling guys (our slot CB).   You can't do that now.  AT has a MUCH easier life and still can't get open.  Or run.    If you live in 3 WR sets, with a weak armed QB, and you choose to put someone who can't get open or run in the slot.......well, your are going to have a weak pass O.  That's by design IMO.
