Well, the Niners just doomed themselves to mediocrity

They paid him because of his stats since he became a starter. He's first in YPA, 4th in Yards, 4th in TD's and first in QBR.

And trending downward in all of them. They're paying in the rearview mirror. As the offensive pieces that were carrying Purdy fall to the wayside the truth is emerging. And yet they still paid him like he's an MVP candidate. They're fuged. I'll be shocked if Purdy hasn't peaked.

If Bryce is Purdy level in 3 years.. tag, trade and start back over

Bingo. You can't pay that type of player elite franchise QB money. That average starter type player can excel when he's surrounded by top shelf talent in a great offensive system but pay him elite QB money and you're going to really struggle to surround him with the type of talent you need to carry him. You pay those elite franchise QBs because they can carry your roster. You can't pay guys who have to be carried.

Bryce showed glimpses down the stretch last year. I really hope he keeps building on that. But before we back up the Brinks truck he needs to show that he's the type of QB who can lift up and carry the offense because when you pay those guys that's what they're gonna have to do.

Even "mediocre" QB play in the NFL is hard to find. Everyone here always acting like this is Madden and talented players grow on trees or you can just find them anywhere. They don't and inevitably this is the reason why even Sam fn Darnold got a bag this offseason.

49ers draft well for their scheme so they will be fine. If this was other franchises it would be tough, but i think they will be fine.

Teams do some super stupid stuff with mid-fairly good QBs.

I think they are just absolutely terrified they will be stuck with a QB that is not the quality of the QB they have now, even if its someone like Daniel Jones.

Lots of trash QBs go in the first round.

I encourage you to take a look at the sad, sad list of first round QBs in the last 15 years.

So purdys per year average according to profootballtalk.nbcsports.com pays him about middle of the road around 15th i believe.  He has put up really good stats i would love to see byoung put up even his bad year stats seems like the 49ers made a solid deal with him.

Not sure where you are getting that from. That is a $53 mil AAV which would be in the back half of the top 10 in pay.

Profootballtalk.nbcsports.com  article said it was currently at 7th but it somehow had alot of fake money bc they dropped his old contract completly and replaced it with this one so the new money put it more of 10th but with alot of new qb contracts in coming years they said by end of next year it would be closer to 15th in the league.  All stuff i dont understand but they said initial report was inflated numbers and not real new money. Either way will be interesting to see if he grows or sinks just hoping byoung can put up numbers close to his this year and i think panthers make playoffs if he does. Screenshot_20250517-094235_Chrome.thumb.jpg.28a6dc0eef73a9514309c9e6c36cb2fe.jpg

Yep. Agree mostly. I think a QB needs to lift the offense, but not necessarily carry it.

I miss the pure passers like Marino, Moon and Jim Kelly. I like my QBs to be elite passers. Not elite athletes.

But when you pay mediocre you're fuged.
