Well, the Niners just doomed themselves to mediocrity

Eh, not convinced he's a bum, but also not saying he's a star either.

If there was any coaching staff in recent memory that was worse than ours with Rhule, it was the Jets staff during Darnold's time there.

I honestly just don't think we really know who Darnold is as a player yet because of it, this season will be very telling, he genuinely could be a bust or a solid above average starter and I wouldn't be surprised either way.

He is a bum. Anyone who had seen NFL QB's for more than a couple of seasons can easily ID that.

I don’t get the hate for Purdy. You don’t put up those kind of numbers in a 3 year period just because you’re on a good team or have good coaching. Despite all the injuries to his own team and injuries to himself he still had a 96 qb rating and has a qb rating of 104.9 in 3 years over 40 games. Heck he was in the mvp race in the 2023 season.

I agree 100% people keep talking about how loaded their team was but the star guys are almost always injured and last yearpurdy had no one at all and still put up good numbers.  As a panther fan i would be thrilled for purdys worse season wish more people would actually look at his stats u could argue his worse season is better than all but 1 or 2 cam seasons for the panthers.  It will be interesting to see how some players do away from purdy i believe he actually makes alot of them better.  But all moot if they make the playoffs again this year the contract was worth it

Not really. Year after year they find a way to win, even with bad decisions. Maybe its a good contract, maybe its a bad one. The only way to determine if the contract is good is by the results. You're saying its a horrible contract but if he leads them to 3 SBs, I'd call it a great contract. Time will ultimately determine the value.

They were winning with JAG QBs prior to Purdy. They just had an elite overall roster. Now a lot of that roster is quickly aging and they've anchored themselves to a JAG QB on a monster contract. Gonna be tough sledding.

Bingo.

We also watched Cam take Carolina to the SB but how much did his career change when he went to the Pats? See how that works? You create a post just to rag on player on another team just because you hate. You love to do this stuff. I've seen it for a few years. You are one of the main problems on this site. Not just y0u but you're definitely one of them. This topic should be in the nfl general chat. As a mod I would think you would understand that but no. The mods need mods around here.

This is for Panther's material. Can a real mod move this thread to it's proper place please?

He poo the bed in the playoffs, but true bums can't do what he did last year, no matter the talent around them.

He's somewhere between what he was with the Jets and what he was last year, where that is I'm not sure.

People are using this "three year period" to gloss over the reality that he was very mid last year and in Purdy's case, "last year" means 40% of his starts.

I don't "hate" Purdy, I just think he's a very middle of the pack starter and you can't pay those guys $50M+ a year. GMs and coaches can because they just want to keep their jobs. But as a fanbase if you're wanting to compete for SBs, ugh... you're basically resigning yourself to mediocrity with decisions like this.

If you include his present year, it's 45 million per year.  That is pretty close to middle of the pack starter if you're looking at yearly average.  Who else are you going to pay?  What are the options?  These guys are not paid in a vacuum.

Who is their QB if they let Purdy walk.  There are teams who haven't had the chance to pay a QB as good as Purdy for the last decade.  If Bryce doesn't continue to ascend then the Panthers will be one of those those teams.

Ya'll act like passing on a very good QB who fits the coaches system like a glove doesn't have serious repercussions.  Who was the last really elite QB for the 49er's?  Steve Young, a quarter of a century ago?

Fans have some of the most unrealistic expectations that are completely devoid of reality.

He's way overrated. $181 million guaranteed...

This is what concerns me with the Panthers. If the people remaining here who have the most at stake to end up being "right" about the pick - Morgan/Tepper) see "just enough" (🤏) improvement to convince themselves Bryce is a franchise QB going forward we seek to sign him to an early extension and just end up in QB purgatory.

Such is why I am hoping for a year of outright elite level QB play from our first overall pick. Slam the door shut and we can all feel relieved.

This is a league-wide issue with how quarterbacks are valued. Not everyone can be a top-five QB, but teams can still win with someone in the mid-tier. As long as your QB is better than average, he’s going to get paid like one of the best.

This isn’t just a Bryce Young problem; it’s a challenge for every team with a decent quarterback.

We all know Cam suffered career derailing shoulder injuries. If you've been around for awhile you should realize that the Panthers forum becomes a catch all football forum in the off-season

But hey, building strawmen and resorting to ad hominem attacks has been a fall back tactic when losing arguments since before the Internet even existed. LOL

Nice username by the way. That aged well.

lol we are gonna have to pay Bryce like 75mil a year now when it comes time to extend him

With his current level of play I'm quite content to not activate his 5th year option and let him walk away for free after year 4.

They will still be a playoff team but they aren't contenders anymore IMO. They won't be able to spend like they have when they went to a SB and proved he couldn't carry a win at that level with a really good team around him. Now he is going to have to do it with less to spend around him. They just locked in to being a playoff bound team that's going to be a known speed bump for whoever will represent the NFC in the SB.

We'll just have to see.

Um, no, just no.

Bills, Chiefs, Chargers, Ravens, Bengals, Texans, Eagles, Commanders are 8 teams that it's not even a debate, they aren't trading their QB for Purdy.

Patriots, Broncos, Titans, Giants, Bears, Vikings, Falcons are 7 more teams with QBs drafted in the last 2 years that also would rather stick with them than trade for Purdy as they all have more upside than he does.

Lions, Packers, Cowboys, Bucs are 4 more that would likely keep their QB's as well, age aside for Goff, Dak, and Baker.

Panthers and Colts are two teams in the same situation, QB's who have both struggled and shown flashes to where the teams probably stick with them because they drafted them, but in a re-draft of all QB's, they probably take Purdy over the guy they currently have.

Jags, Cardinals, Dolphins, are 3 more with QB's who probably have a higher upside than Purdy but come with their own question marks, so debatable if they'd take Purdy over who they already have.

That leaves Jets, Raiders, Steelers, Browns, Saints, Seahawks, and Rams.

Rams would take him over Stafford for the future of course, but not for 2025, and I'd think the Seahawks would take him over Darnold, but honestly not sure if they would take him over Milroe at this moment as they really like his potential and have him for 4 years really cheap.

That leaves 5 teams that I see who would absolutely take him over their current situation right now, and a handful of others who MIGHT take him over their current guy, a far cry from your 20.

Whew, you sure spent a lot of time explaining how a QB that you don't care much for sucks.

You're into this way, way more than me. But I do have to say you've got a lot of teams listed there as not wanting him whose QBs have a fair amount of hype but a small amount of accomplishments.

After watching our front office negotiate with Horn, does anyone really doubt Bryce will get a bag in '26 (or would we risk pushing that out to '27)? We used back to back first round picks on wr's and retooled the oline for him.

I think the decision will be made one way or another after this season.  That's how the contracts seem to work for qbs.

    • I'm happy with TMac, but Tyler Warren was last season's Tyler Linderbaum for me in that he was at a position that wasn't one of the five pillars but he was the best player at his position AND one of the top talents in the draft. I cannot fuging wait for the Panthers to start winning again so that those guys fall to us like they seem to for teams like Baltimore & Philadelphia.
    • Still working on consuming all of these so I don't have summaries available, but I figured there might be another Huddler or three trying to kill time before tonight's final preseason game.   Panthers Blueprint: Training Camp The in-house produced Blueprint series has given behind-the-scenes look on the field and off. Start the day with Robert Hunt's family, be in the morning meetings, mic'd up players during practice (Jaycee, Rozeboom, Icky, and Bryce), roster evaluations by the staff, and plenty of camp highlights capping off with FanFest.   Processing Blue (Mike Kaye & Alex Zietlow Mike and Alex are back talking about a variety of topics including but not limited to: joint practice + preseason game vs. Houston, Trey Hendrickson trade rumors involving Carolina, training camp awards, draft pick draft, and various thoughts about the team.   Jordan & Jake 706: Opening Day Another in-house Panthers' production, the most recent episode of Jordan and Jake talk about how to properly balance intensity in practice, react to the starters being shutdown for the preseason finale, share their thoughts on the newest Panther QB, and more.   Raw Room - Ep 278 - Gas Pedal (ft. Mike Davis) Assistant special teams' coach Darren Bates' Raw Room podcast has former Panthers' RB Mike Davis on his weekly podcast. I'm about halfway through this one and it's been a lot of fun. The Raw Room guys (DB, his friend Alex Sweets, former Eagles/Chargers OT King Dunlap, and former Atlanta DB Jalen Collins) are hilarious and Mike fits right in. They talk about his football experience coming up, decommitting from Florida and how he decided on South Carolina, and more. Warning: If you're the type of person that is easily distracted by accents, despite XL being on the team, you might have issues with understanding the Memphis dialect. If you don't care about how somebody talks, just what they're talking about, tune in!
