Summary

  • The 2024 Carolina defense posted a 44.9 grade last year, which was the worst in the NFL since 2020. They also had the worst receiving grade in the NFL despite a QB that emerged in the second half of last year.
  • TMac is most likely WR1 in this class and is now WR1 in Carolina
  • He's going to be incredibly helpful on go balls, dig routes, and in the redzone. Highlights show just that:
    • First highlight is Arizona vs. Utah. 4 verts vs. cover-0, TMac lined up alone on a go ball vs. press = we're launching it
    • Second highlight shows his potential as the X. Runs a backside in-cut and the Tampa-2 MLB sells out on the corner route, leaving his back to TMac. Tough over the middle, explosive after the play. Sees TMac doing a lot of what Mike Evans was asked to do in Tampa.
    • Third highlight shows how effective TMac is in the redzone and it's his one-handed catch vs. Travis Hunter. Brings "indefensible plays." Has size advantage that can beat guys, can jump, and has ridiculous hands.
  • Will help Bryce in year 3 as it will allow him to continue playing "fearless" like he did after coming back from benching. Highlights show where TMac fits and re-emphasizes how he's going to make things easier on go balls, dig routes, and in the redzone:
    • Fourth highlight shows Bryce vs. ATL when he hit AT vs. AJ Terrell down the sideline. Bryce has to hold the single deep safety during his drop to give Thielen a chance (who is only 4yds off of the LOS when Bryce is throwing it). Registers the big-time throw attacking vertically.
    • Fifth highlight is vs. KC on a blitz where Bolton is coming downhill while Karlaftis is dropping back over the middle. Has an in-route that has outside leverage with Chris Jones applying immediate pressure. Layered it over Karlaftis' head for the completion.
    • Sixth highlight is the fade route TD to David Moore vs. Zona. in the redzone. David Moore was the X on this play.

Thought this was interesting, especially considering recent conversations about Bryce's intermediate game needing to be better:

I am optimistic that we might be on the verge of fielding a sustainable offense finally. The Bryce stats listed above are definitely encouraging. I don’t want to overly inflate this and disregard the previous 1 and a half seasons of production from Bryce and “cherry pick” stats but do hope the benching turns into an inflection point in his trajectory.

Lots of excitement heading into this season.

My whole point in wanting T-Mac was because it unlocks the rest of the offense. Yeah, we were getting by when teams stacked the box with AT but that was it as our only reliable receiver.. and so teams just all out blitz and it not only hurt our pass game but it hurt our run game too as those blitz make it harder to run unless you perfectly block everyone on the first level.

    • Right I need to grow up because you got..... a single poo emoji pot meet kettle.
    • @PantherChrisgrow the fug up.  We read you whine and bitch about so much all the time, let someone have their own take on things instead of being a petulant child.
    • Florida is the only team that would be doing that to us, and it happens when we are down Chatty, Walker isn't 100% and our top players are being molested in plain view on the ice. Florida is bigger and just as fast as we are, they have the two biggest agitating arseholes in the NHL in Marchand and Tkachuk, have a solid coach and a lot of nice pieces that make that team the best in the East by a good margin this year and possibly back to back Cup champions.  I fail to mention Zito who has been aggressive in getting Marchand and Seth Jones plus other players at the deadline to fill in any weaknesses. We have taken the long term, we have a shot every year approach and keep coming up short.  This is the summer to come away with the last needed pieces and if that takes sacrificing some prospects and picks we have to do it.  We have Freddie who is a very good goalie, but I still think young Kooch needs more time - he shows flashes but he still isn't right between the ears yet. This is definitely it for Orlov, not sure about Burns although he has looked it the last half of the season.  It would be nice to be able to get rid of KK somehow.  Svech has never become the guy I thought he'd be so a pure scorer would be nice.  I still like where this organization is EVEN with RBA coaching.  Do we discredit everything the guy has done in years where we weren't supposed to make the playoffs let alone win some series etc??  We need a bit more size, but I like we added Walker, Carrier, and Robinson who all had some good experience and didn't mind showing some grit.  Who's Back:    Forwards:  Aho, Svech, Jarvy, Blake, Hall, Carrier, Staal, Marty, Stankoven (need to sign to a bridge at least), KK  (really need to trade him this summer or next year for sure, his NMC kicks in 26-27) Defensemen:  Slavin, Walker, Chatty, Ghost, Nikishin, Morrow Goalies:  Freddy, Koochy Potential: Forwards:   Nadeau (he was like a -20 in Chicago so he'll have to really earn Rod's trust), Robidas, FUS didn't have a great season, Bring back Roslovic?, Jost for cheap?? Defensemen:  Technically Nikishin and Morrow, but I have them replacing Orlov and Burns above, Honka, Probably will sign one who plays good D and doesn't break the bank Goalies:  Khazheyev?, Sign one possibly?? tl;dr:  Bottom line is we are definitely going to need to sign a Defenseman or two, and 2-3 Forwards with 2 being scorers and hopefully taller than 6'0".  We have really good depth at forward, we are thinning out at D, and our goalies.....I am just not sure.
