[PFF] Tetairoa McMillan Will Unlock Bryce Young and the Panthers Offense!

I am optimistic that we might be on the verge of fielding a sustainable offense finally. The Bryce stats listed above are definitely encouraging. I don’t want to overly inflate this and disregard the previous 1 and a half seasons of production from Bryce and “cherry pick” stats but do hope the benching turns into an inflection point in his trajectory.

Lots of excitement heading into this season.

My whole point in wanting T-Mac was because it unlocks the rest of the offense. Yeah, we were getting by when teams stacked the box with AT but that was it as our only reliable receiver.. and so teams just all out blitz and it not only hurt our pass game but it hurt our run game too as those blitz make it harder to run unless you perfectly block everyone on the first level.

Couple of things to consider with the recent love from PFF:

  • Eric Eager, the current Panthers' VP of Football Analytics, is a former writer and data scientist for PFF.
  • The team has had seven consecutive losing seasons, so the fanbase is eager for any uplifting news.
  • It's the offseason, so football writers are going to be diving into the numbers from last season to create speculative pieces to drive engagement during the offseason.
  • Being hesitant to trust stats like BTT% but not TWP% might be less an issue with PFF and more of an issue with something else.

The love/hate relationship with PFF here over the years amuses me greatly.

But I do appreciate this content. Training camp should be fun.

It's simple... If they compliment us we love them, if they fail to rave about our awesomeness, we hate them!

I just want the truth. I understand that the truth hurts sometimes but I would rather be told the truth that hurts than a lie that makes me feel good.

for example I was told how great our D was under Evero and how if you cherry pick certain stats that our d was actually good. But the truth was we were in the bottom of almost every category except pass yards and that was probably because teams ran the ball down our throats and didn’t need to pass because they were ahead by so much. Context is key. Then coming into this season we have one of the worst defenses all around. The truth was we weren’t that good the year before but some people didn’t wanna hear it so they tried to twist it to make it seem like we were better than what we were.

This season there was no way to deny how bad our defense was.

If you actually listened to the truth you would have realized this going into the season but the lies gave people false hope.

To an extent that’s a little bit  what you see with the pass O.  Our WRs sucked per PFF.  League worst..  Bryce was super inaccurate and off target with his throws.  League worst.  We also didn’t generate a lot of production in general.  BUT…..if you just cherry pick a small amount of deep throws late in the year…..it was awesome.

I still think we are striving to get to average O and average D.

This is incredibly dishonest, and you know it.

We didn't cherry-pick a "small amount of deep throws late in the year." We reviewed every one of Bryce's deep throws using the NFL's own film and data via NFL Pro. The analysis was thorough, transparent, and contextualized with game film. Dismissing that as cherry-picking is not only incredibly disingenuous, it is textbook gaslighting as well.

Let's walk through the actual data:

If you're going to lean on the "no pressure" qualifier again, his deep passing under pressure was covered. So no... it wasn't cherry-picked. Look, you don't have to believe in Bryce. That's your right... but misrepresenting clear, consistent evidence crosses the line from skepticism into willful intellectual dishonesty.
