Interesting some people are against Scourton getting a fully guaranteed rookie contract which would max out at around 9 million but if you wonder aloud if dinosaurs like Thielen are worth 9 million a year you're a pariah lmao.

All first rounder have fully guarantee deals, I believe since 2011.

Just the Texans gave Higgins a full deal while he was the 34th taken player. Browns had no choice at that point to do the same for 33rd drafted LB. 

Honestly the NFL and players union may need to step in to fix the current mess.

 

I foresee another reset ala 2011 rookie scale coming soon. I believe this years 6th overall pick Jeanty has the most guaranteed money BY FAR of ANY RB..... that just shows the RB market is hella bad. But Its starting to get like 2000s days, where the guy pick in the first is the highest paid. Like if a safety or center is draft in the top 10, they would be in the top 3 I believe.

Nothing they can really do.  The rookie wage scale is based on the salary cap as negotiated in the CBA.  They’d need to sign a new CBA to make changes.  And like I said, the money can’t really get out of hand.  It’s a set percentage based on the current year’s salary cap.  If the salary cap increases the rookie scale will reflect that increase.  The only real negotiation points the rookies have are guaranteed money and the off-set language in the contract.  The numbers are set.

It's 8 million over 4 years.... I'd bend a knee... there are much worse FA contracts being handed out.  Gives teams more incentive to draft well.

The Browns and Texans basically screwed the rest of the league.  Someone may want to tell that commie Jimmy Haslam to stop with all this guaranteed money.  If he keeps this up the NFL is going to be screwed.

But it has gotten a little wacky.

A couple months ago iggles made Bark the highest guaranteed RB, jeanty was until then. That's what matters the guarantee. A rookie never played a down was the leader, until iggles howie made things right. 

If a safety gets drafted in the top 8 or so, he would have the highest money too or very close to it. 

 

Add in TEs and C too. 

 

Even with the fixed %, the numbers are getting too much for a player that's not proven themselves.  

 

Plus anytime a QB is drafted it screws up the contracts for players around and if next year a punter gets drafted at the same 90th spot, they want the same contract with the 5.7% increase. Teams would be laughing. 

 

Its just reached this point. Another 10 years and I bet the vets will be crying.

It's rather absurd that the rookie contracts aren't fully guaranteed for at least the top 3 rounds.

If all the 2nd round picks are holding out for the guarantee then it's obviously not the players themselves pushing for it at this point but the agents. Houston and Cleveland opened that door so now the agents want to see where that door closes. I don't blame the players in this situation. Especially if they participated in the OTAs even without the signed contract as Nick did. It shows he wants to play but he's doing what he's being told he must do for the good of all the players. The only thing is that he and the others cannot participate next week if they aren't signed. Hopefully, things will get worked out before then.

I said in the Shemar Stewart thread that I thought it was a good trade off, First round picks get fully guaranteed contracts and teams get the 5th year option. That's just fair! 

Maybe a sliding scale could work to avoid this type of shenanigans, 2nd round 90% guaranteed, 3rd round 80%... just my off season ramblings.

These are just ripples of a move to redo the rookie deal schedule for second rounders and beyond. These kids coming out of college with NILs are even more money savvy than those before them and they've been working with agents for longer.

And agents will always try to sweeten the deal for their clients, and therefore, themselves.

      there is one common denominator in the 2003 & 2015 Carolina Panthers teams they both had ELITE top tier Qb play.  it would require a MVP type of season from Bryce Young to have the same type of success that Jake Delhomme had in  2003 & or Cam Newton in 2015 & lead this team to a SuperBowl is this going to happen or is there any reason to believe Bryce Young is capable of playing similar to Jake Delhomme in 2003 or Cam Newton in 2015 ? well no there is no absolutely NO reason whatsoever to believe that this is going to happen in 2026 ..just saying

      I'd actually like to see Cherelus get a fair shot to win the job in camp. Wallace is decent in drop zone coverage, but he gets abused in the play action game and is often times out of position in the run game. It might just be me, but I swear every time I watch Wallace play, I see multiple plays a game were it looks like he's just trying to be blocked. Watching Cherelus last year he at least looked like he was trying to hit someone on every play. Wallace plays like a LB who doesn't trust what he sees and it makes him passive and cautious versus Cherelus who regardless of if his decision is right or wrong goes at it 100%.

      Agreed.  Hasn’t happened to me either, but I feel very strongly about it.  That’s not just one of the worst things a woman could do to a man, it’s a power inherent to only women and is one of the worst things a HUMAN being can do to another.  A man can’t “hide” a pregnancy or maternity.  It’s impossible.  And that sucks for anyone that has to go through that. I always got a weird vibe off her and just found her very unlikeable.  Annoying even.  I’ve always been good at reading people and there was just something about her to me that was off-putting, somewhere under the surface.  And here we are…  she is despicable.
