Well they do preface it by saying "there is some projection here." He is saying he believes WR will be the strength. I definitely disagree and think it will again be the OL and likely RB's but I wouldn't be so quick to say "doesn't watch the team" as much as maybe has a rosier view of the WR corps. Or maybe just doesn't have as high of an opinion of the OL as we do. 

It's an interesting take, to be sure. There are several here that have voiced that "WR corps is a strength" view.

If WR is our biggest strength that will be HUGE. It basically means that T-Mac showed up as a legit #1 WR from day one and XL developed into a legit starter over the off-season.

IMO, the strength of the roster is obviously OG. We have one of the best pairs of starting OGs in the league with some decent depth behind them.

The biggest issue we face is that there are numerous compelling arguments to be made about our biggest weakness. LOL

I think there’s plenty of ways you can go about choosing the worst position group for us. LB, S, EDGE, hell even CB. For me, our biggest weakness remains depth. Plenty of reasons behind that (poor drafting, bad contracts, not a big market to attract FAs, etc.). Injuries will and do happen and for us, one big injury to any of our weaker position groups and things start looking similar to last year. The only position groups that can continue contributing while having injuries IMO are OL and RB. So both should be the only two considerations for strengths even though I understand  the hope and/or projection for WRs. I tend to not use projection in “right now” rankings. But i get it.

Well, it seems a little confusing, but I guess not: I guess they're thinking that we're going to the way that our receivers go. Barnwell just ranked us 31 at the (so-called) offensive skill positions. ESPN just doesn't think that much of the Panthers. I wonder if it was the O-line that bumped us up one spot, because they obviously don't think that much of our safety position, or our pass-rush. In any event, there should be ample enough bulletin board material here for the team.

*disclaimer, no need to tell us what happened in the end, just quit watching after he gets the Mountain on the ground.  I mean, he technically beat him.  Renfrow isn't cocky enough to then get leg swept and then have all that other stuff happen to him.

Yeah, but...they rank us 30th of 32 teams, so the WR-is-a-strength sentiment  is built on hollowed ground (yes, "hollowed," not hallowed). When you're perceived as ranking 30th, there's an argument that all strengths are really perceived as weaknesses.

I mean, basically I wouldn't get carried away with any strength arguments based upon that ranking.

The truth will begin to reveal itself come early September.

So... what they're saying is that we went from having maybe the worst WR room in the league last year to it being the biggest strength of the roster this year...

I mean 1-6 the WR group is pretty good.  All 6 won’t see the field at the same time.  I’d say 3 WR sets or less a majority of the time if our commitment to the run game is to be believed.

With that said, the o line is our strength.  Behind that we have a RB room with 2 1000 yard rushers.  Personally I think both groups are “better” at this time.  And if we’re only going 2-3 players deep the Corners have an argument for being a better unit than the WRs as we currently sit.

tl;dr  Another lazy article by the world wide leader in sports…

I agree with the OL-RB crew.

 

Just to toss this into the fire- Panthers are the only team to invest 8, 32, and 39 draft capital into the WR spot. No other team has used top picks like panthers only at WR.

      And once again I showed you it’s been pretty even. We spent 2nd and 3rd rounders this past draft on edge rushers. No one’s going to sit here and do the math on a draft value chart etc. the only reason I even entertained this was because you said we’ve spent nothing on defense when that simply isn’t true. It also didn’t help we traded our ONLY WR worth a damn to trade up for Bryce soo… And this is kind of the issue with the anti Bryce crowd. This crowd tends to blame him for the trade up. I was team Stroud. Had the panthers not taken Young the only other QB they were going to take was Richardson. So your issue should be with Tepper, Morgan, Fitterer not Bryce.  Bryce is who he is and it was pretty obvious who he was during the draft process. Bryce is slowly developing into that guy most thought he’d be. Give him a WR like Jamo and this offense as a whole would improve greatly.  Anyone thinking he was the next Pat Mahomes or Josh Allen is clearly slow. Bryce was always going to need pieces around him much like EVERY other QB Burrow has Chase and Higgins and they’ve done nothing. After losing in AFC Championship in 2022, Burrow is 17-15. QB’s need a team around them It’s why a Jalen Hurts led Eagles team dismantled a Pat Mahomes led KC team in the SB Imo the QB’s doing the most with the least up until this year have been Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson  This year it’s Drake Maye and Josh Allen  Outside of the 3-5 elite type QB’s I’m not really sure what people expect here. Is Bryce ever going to be in that elite category? Nope. Should we punt on Bryce and keep swinging? I don’t think so. Should we keep swinging while hanging onto Bryce? Yeah but I don’t know what that looks like This team as a whole isn’t very good. Offense and defense and that’s the simple truth

      I didn't move the goal posts. But anyone who follows football who wants to engage in a rational discussion can't argue that 10 7th round picks are equal to 10 1st rounders in value. The argument has always been we haven't spent as much on defense has we have on offense. Draft picks have value just like salary. We have not spent the same amount of draft pick salary cap on defense that we have on offense since drafting Bryce. It's not even close. Just the 2 1sts we used on Bryce, 2 overall 1sts have a value of 6000. That doesn’t even factor in DJ Moore or the 2 2nds. Bryce cost more than everything we've spent on defense in 6 damn years.
