Sorry, but that's just a terrible way of looking at it, for a couple reasons.

First is that if we drafted Parsons, or hell, if ANY other team drafted him, the odds are that he wouldn't be viewed as possibly the best pass rusher in the league right now.  He was drafted by the Cowboys to be an ILB and the majority of draft experts viewed him as such as well, who could situationally pass rush.  The only reason the Cowboys ended up putting him at DE that year was because of how many injuries they had on the DL.

So more than likely, any other team drafts him that year and he plays more LB than pass rusher and is a totally different player than he is today.  He ended up in a situation that forced him into a role he never would have had as a rookie and it completely changed the trajectory of his career.

Beyond that, even if you want to go with the assumption that he is the same player he is today even if we drafted him.  Then the overwhelming odds are that we are a better and completely different team right now, because we'd have had him on the edge the last few years causing havoc.  It would be the person going back in time, stepping on a butterfly and changing history, who knows where we'd be, but we'd likely have been a better team the last few years and thus paying him that money wouldn't be dumb.

The combination of what it would cost to give up to get him, plus the cap space that could be used elsewhere, is not worth it for one player with where we currently are as a franchise this year.

Adding Parsons doesn't make us a contender, it probably still only makes us a borderline playoff team this year and then we don't have the high draft picks or cap space next offseason to continue to properly build around him more.  It would be the Bears and Khalil Mack situation all over again, they blew their wad on that trade/contract and couldn't build around it.

Any team that isn't a title contender THIS season with Parsons, shouldn't even be considering trading for him, let alone one like us who aren't likely to make the playoffs even if things go well for us this year.

I don't think that there is any way in hell that any team wouldn't have evaluated his relentless pass rushing ability in real time and not exploited it to cause havoc. The cream rises to the top.

As for everything else, it's pure speculation that we will never have the answer to.

The Cowboys literally had him in their building and didn't make him a full time pass rusher until mid-season when their DL was crushed by injuries.

Not saying he wouldn't have rushed the passer in situations, but he likely would have been an off ball LB on every other team, as that's even where the Cowboys put him.

Watson is a cautionary tale because he pulled that trade coming off a full year he didn’t play due to injury and then almost a whole other full season due to an 11 game suspension for being a creep.  If Parsons was coming off all of that, I’d agree - we don’t do it.  But Parsons has been mentioned with the likes of LT and Mack.  If we could swing it, we should do it.  I don’t think the cowboys would trade him in-conference, but we’ve seen wilder things happen before (McRib to WSH).

That's true but the reality is even with Mack the teams he's joined haven't won anything of note and certainly haven't sniffed a championship which is what it's all about if you're making trades of that magnitude. As for Parsons talent level he could reach greater heights than Mack though I would personally refrain from mentioning anyone in the same breath as Lawrence Taylor. Different generation different mentality altogether IMO. The league and the world around it is very different now.

I'm typically of the "don't trade first for players" crowd. Was a big noon teDeshauntrade even before the allegations because our roster was poo.

I don't see this happening at all, but but I'm all for it for a player like Parsons and with our current roster. You can't wait for the perfect moment to get a player like him and he would make literally everyone on the roster's job easier.

Even missing 5 games last year he had 12 sacks. Our offense is cheap right now. Sure we have other questions but our defensive outlook is a complete 180 with him.

Tuka, he was a rookie, and an immature one at that. Sure, injuries certainly accelerated his timetable, but that's life in the NFL. Only fools would keep a player down. Nevertheless, it honestly doesn't matter at this point. Just know that Parsons is more than a lucky linebacker.

If Parsons really becomes available, we are going to check in, and there will be discussions. We'll likely pass, but under the unlikely scenario of Brown and a third, I'd bet the house that the the former Panthers LB signs the new one. That's all I'm saying at the end of the day.

And what if Bryce regresses or stalls at super mid? I know everyone is excited about him playing better after the benching but the reality is that he was still very mid-level it's just that was a massive improvement from the dumpster fire he had been.

I just can't rationalize trading away future 1sts before the QB issue is definitively answered.

    • Dave in a presser gassed up Anthony Tyus III and dying to see him on the field.  I mean 3 is all that needed right, and Dan loves etienne. He's one year filling in his body. If brooks is back, toss in chubba, thats 3.
    • After seeing hits in the last two UDFA pools, I do not in this group sorta of a let down after I gassed myself up.  Not like I know of their games, but just expected more. The duke DT only has to beat out hunte (2025 UDFA) or Ray (DL coach's kid) or even Cam Jackson mid 2025 5th.  I thought they would bring in more edges, IOL, TEs, etc...
    • My 2 favorite picks, since you didn't ask? 3. Brazzell II.  A 1000 yard WR with 4.37 speed and checks all the boxes for a Z Wide Receiver.  IN THE THIRD ROUND!!! 5.  Sam Hecht.  I think he will take over as the starter at some point this season and never look back.  IN THE FIFTH ROUND. Runner Up:  2. Hunter:  We were targeting a DT early in this draft because we did very little to replace Robinson in free agency.  Hunter was our guy and he will start. In addition to that, you got a starting tackle that should man one side of the new OL we will build for Bryce's second contract. A starting WR, offensive lineman, defensive lineman and possible Offensive tackle (at some point during this year from this draft will start.  UNREAL. In addition, I don't doubt that Wheatley (5th round) takes the FS job by next year and Lee III is Jackson's replacement in 2027.   Finally, even Kuwatch should be a special teams demon and LB depth.   Last year's draft was so good it was ugly.  This one will turn out to be uglier.  No offense Basbear--this ain't about you.
