It's a preseason game, but...losing is not an option.

No player who will get significant playing time this season will play more than a series or two, with the odds that anyone who plays for us from the 2nd quarter on being a player who likely won't ever see meaningful snaps this year.

So winning/losing really doesn't matter, it's all about how the starters look and then the overall mindset and attitude of the team, scoreboard is meaningless in this.

The recent trend throughout the league is for veteran players to receive most of the snaps in joint workouts, with rookies then playing in the preseason games. For Sanders and Gabriel, the games would be the best indicators to date on how they can adapt to things on the fly.

Bryce sees maybe a series or two.  Dalton maybe a few more, then we see Plummer for most of the game.

What is a win in the preseason? Figuring out your play calling timing, working on checkdowns and protections, developing consistency cutting down penalties, trying out different down and distance calls. Very little emphasis is on gameplanning for the other team. It about creating depth and gaining game type reps for everyone.

They just signed Tyler Huntley, and it's reported that he'll be playing. Two greenhorns, huh? I'm not convinced that Sanders or Gabriel are necessarily better than Plummer at this point. And I know damned well that Dalton should outplay either one of them. You're talking about their third and fourth string QBs. Let's not get carried away with the new kids on the block.

Dalton will probably play less than Bryce in preseason due to his many years he’s been in the league. I really don’t know why we didn’t take a late flyer on a QB

Like Shedeur Sanders...I know that I thought about it that third day.

Perhaps they like what they see out of Jack Plummer. He seems to be developing.

Wins and losses don’t really mean much in the preseason it’s all about evaluating matchups. It’s about how players perform in individual situations.Yeah, winning is nice, but most of the game is played by guys who won’t even make the final roster.

Because we had too many holes still to fill and if you do that, then you HAVE to carry 3 QB's on the active roster or you wasted the pick.

As it is, all our draft picks this year are likely to make the 53 I think, and if Bryce goes down and/or doesn't show improvement, it's another lost season and we'll need to draft, trade, sign a new QB in the offseason, not hope a 5th or 6th round pick from this year turns into something legitimate.

If Bryce improves and shows to be the guy of the future, then you take a QB in the mid rounds next year with the hope that they can be a solid backup for the 4 years of their rookie contract.

I'm in between on this. I look at the first half as my indicator whether we won or not. This is the majority of the roster. These are the players that are starters and solid backups. The second half are players fighting for a job. Those that win a roster spot will most likely be the type of players @Leeroy Jenkins Ph.D. Is referring to.

Sure you want to win the game but how many preseason games are lost in the late 3rd and 4th quarters. Too many to count.

One other factor that is being overlooked in this conversation is game planning. Preseason games are designed to work on the chemistry not exploiting the other teams weaknesses. While I do believe the coordinator may see a weakness during the game, they are not watching film and designing an offensive game plan.

So take the first half and be happy or sad that's where most of the good stuff is.

    • Since he has owned the team hes not gotten one thin dime from me. Prior, I would attend 5,6 games a year, buy the food and beer...buy the merch etc.... no hair off his ass nor mine.
    • Jerry turned out to be a weirdo but at least the Panthers were his thing, his life.  This is just some rich asshole's plaything after he made so much money he got bored and needed something else.  Dude doesn't seem to care enough to make this a winner.  It's sad but I agree with others that moving this team would be sort of a relief at this point.   It's time to fire everyone honestly.  First, Dan Morgan.  Then everyone else, end of season.  But I don't even know what kind of coaches would want to come here anyway.  It's just all doom and gloom.
    • Remember when he said he would take a year to learn the business side and a year to learn the football side?  He was supposed to be straight 6 years ago. Ready to take on the NFL.    Wasted three years some great draft slots on an obvious folly.  Carpetbagging motherphucker That felt good.
