Possible the Browns are looking to trade Shadeur?

I read this rumor the other day, and it makes sense…. It said the Browns are planning on trading Shadeur before final cuts.  Shortly after I saw this rumor, their dirtbag owner then came out and said he had nothing to do with picking him, sort of distancing himself from the whole thing - which is interesting, because the word out of their camp is Shadeur has been the best QB statistically to this point, with the only close competition being Flacco.  Why would an owner distance himself from a potential super-value pick if he was planning on keeping him?

i wanted us to draft him, and now with them in town for the joint practices and game, we know in the past, a lot of teams are able to get some really solid scouting and intel done in these settings and often pickup other players via cuts or trades from the teams they see up close in these joint practices.  I feel he has tremendous tools to build on.  I love his accuracy and anticipation, and so far, in their camp, he appears to be making huge strides and really impressing.  The Browns just seem to not want him, for whatever reason, and that dates back to even then drafting him.  Would you be interested in making a low-cost move for Shadeur as a developmental QB behind Bryce and Dalton?  I would love this move.

No. He is starting largely because Gabriel and Pickett are hurt. In my opinion, after reading about their camp, he’s been the best performer after Flacco, as well. Whatever the drama going on in the C-suites, I don’t think they would trade Sanders just because.

Then again, they got rid of Baker. Who knows? I used to like Stefanski but the more I see, the more I realize drama just follows him around.

Yeah, it would make zero sense to trade him, but it’s kind of tracking.  Sure, they could be starting him because he’s earning it, and again, by all reports, he has been statistically stunning throughout camp.  But, they also could be starting him to advertise the product to maximize value for him in a trade.  And again, Haslem’s comments make zero fuging sense.  Why wouldn’t you want to say you made the call on such a steal?  I would want to distance myself from the Gabriel pick at this point (but I never would’ve made that pick in the first place).  Also, saw Stefanski continue to downplay Shadeur in a presser last week, yet still continued to vouch for Gabriel after a historically atrocious day at camp (I think he was like 3/14 with an a couple INTs). I personally don’t think Gabriel is an NFL QB, and I made that assessment strictly from what I saw in college.  And Stefanski was saying stuff like Gabriel just wants to be great and he is going to work to be great blah blah blah.  So, again, it seems they really prop up Gabriel and downplay Shadeur.  It doesn’t make sense at all - but it does start seeming like, paired with their lack of enthusiasm upon drafting Shadeur, that they are trying to distance themselves and maybe get some value back for him.

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.

    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
