Josh was from a small school and was drafted in the 5th round.  Big difference.

Norman was getting 2nd/3rd round talk. Thornton was a potential late round pick. Both guys slid considerably due to poor workouts. Norman to the 5th, Thornton out of the draft.

Thornton also played four seasons at UCF before a super senior year at Louisville.

Look at the measurables they're almost identical and if I remember correctly Norman was looked at as a huge reach

Not to say Richard Sherman is the same either, but similar numbers. Some-time players just figure it faster than others.

Norman took 2 or 1.5 years, he was in and out of the doghouse for many weeks. Then he figured out how to "use" his hands without getting flagged much like Sherman did.

Thor was the best part of that game, nearly the only good part....

I feel like Norman wasn’t playing not because he wasn’t good enough, but it seemed more “teaching you a lesson” -type stuff.  Because he always flashed from the beginning, every time he saw the field.  I think remember being pissed that we weren’t playing him significantly more early.  Tbh, he really shouldn’t have been inactive those first couple years.

The best UDFA will always be Andrew Norwell. But yeah, the kid had a helluva first game. Looks like the training camp hype is justified.

Wasn't Brad Hoover an UDFA?  I think we could argue both sides--

His workout numbers really hurt him. Teams probably looked at these athleticism measurables and simply saw a guy that they didn't consider an NFL caliber athlete.

Definitely why he wasn't drafted.

I'm done with RAS superstars, give me football players anyday. Josh Norman had a 40 time in the 4.6's as well.

    • I picked up too turdpiles from the same poster for saying basically I liked both Jake and Cam.  I tried to find where I had been negative and couldn’t see it. It was basically my most ‘fan’ posting in months, I thought. Innocuous approval of the guys behind our two best years. Could not make sense of it other to think that it was not okay with someone that I like both QBs.
    • They are not equal. But I didn’t believe either was worth that ridiculously desperate trade up.  I agreed with you then and still believe that now. We got horrible value for those assets.    Half the people here trashed the 2023 offense while overlooking that a coach they don’t think much of went 6-6 with them to finish 2022. You could have built on that.   Think about the picks lost and DJ too, and the additional investment in 2024 and the 1st this year and imagine all that still being done and having Darnold running it.  Then the 9th in 2023, the other 1st and two 2nds, you could have put them into the defense and still have had the massive offensive investment. Granted you would have altered the cap money you had for the guards by paying Darnold.  And tell me we wouldn’t have been so far ahead of where we are now….
