Panthers possibly trading Thielen?

Wouldn't be surprised if Renfrow is left off, but I do think he is the 2nd best option in the slot behind Coker when AT is traded (assuming we don't use Tet in the slot). The more I think, the more I start believing Horn is the odd man out and somebody we hope to stash on PS. Hopefully I am wrong though and Moore is the one we cut.

Tet-XL-Cokehead-Renfrow-Tremayne-Moore

If you move Thielen I think you almost have to keep Renfrow. You need some sort of veteran presence in the locker room and Renfrow would be good insurance in the slot. I'm sure we have Coker penciled in to start there but you also have to be keeping Coker in the back of your head as XL insurance on the outside if he doesn't step up. If he flounders again, I wouldn't wait too awfully long to replace him with Coker outside and slide Renfrow into the slot and keep it moving.

Do it. Get something out of it. Either way he is probably done after this season. Maybe we can get some LB or secondary depth out of it.

Renfrow is the same type of player on a less talented level.

Give McMillan, Legette, and Coker the top 3. Gives you a path to also keep Renfrow, Horn, Tremayne, etc.

I agree. I’d make the move because I don’t see us sniffing the playoffs and let’s be honest TMac, Legette and Coker better be our top 3 future. If they aren’t and we need Thielen to replace one of them, then we need to draft yet another 1st round WR, SMH.

Suffice it to say, Thielen isn’t good enough to get us into the playoffs so let’s get the young guys starting so we know if they aren’t good enough. We still have so many assumptions about whether players are who we need them to be that holding onto Thielen for 3-7 wins isn’t worth passing on a mid round pick (3rd to 5th/swaps). We’ve had some success with later round picks/UDFAs and need depth.

Playing the same role is different than having the same style.  Cam Newton and Drew Brees both played QB but arent the same type in any way.

You could literally, put them in a full body suit and not be able to tell which one is which running routes.

Thielen just has better hands.

Yeah, with Renfrow available to fill that veteran presence role for a lot cheaper I think we're well positioned to turn AT into future assets, plus I'm sure he would be more than happy going back to Minnesota where he's from and where he's spent his entire career. This is one of those rare win/win type situations where it's for the best for everyone and would give the Vikings a great feel good story to rally around.

I’m not a fan of it. Just because we finally have what appears to be a strength of the team doesn’t mean we trade away a proven asset.

This is Bryce’s evaluation year. I don’t want any excuses if bad luck strikes us.

If Renfrow looks like his old self then maybe trade AT by mid season. But not right now.

Well, sounds like Thielen is as good as gone. I wouldn't expect a coach to even entertain talking about trading a player in the days leading up to week one kicking off unless it was happening. Those types of questions are usually just flat out shot down by coaches.

You have to wonder how much is this is Thielen wanting to go home for his final season.

Had this opportunity not been available he probably would have been happy here this season.

Understandable take.

We're the Panthers. Somehow everything we do comes back to bite us in the ass. LOL

If Bryce regresses this year and we choose to move on its practically guaranteed he goes somewhere else and turns into the Lions' version of Jared Goff.

First part absolutely but I wouldn't bet on the second part. I wouldn't even bet on a Geno in Seattle honestly.

Mid season the opportunity might not be there, part of the Vikings need is to have him the first few weeks.

The Vikings right now will get us the best return on him in a trade, can’t see a scenario where any team would need a WR so bad mid season that they give up more for him than whatever the Vikings will right now.

Compensation that I've seen rumored was a day 3 pick.

They both are possession/chain moving slot WR.   They serve the same function.

One is younger, quicker, gets open easier, and plays ST

The other has better hands and a better build

but both serve the exact same purpose for a team
