Our team is built to succeed on the assumption the O-line will dominate. They haven’t come close, and Bryce, the WRs and the Defense has suffered as a result. O-line and run game have to dominate or we lose.

So three first round picks on a QB, but the OLine and the running game has to be dominant for him to succeed?

Make it make sense. That's how you handle a career journeyman, a game manager you bring off the bench when the starter goes down.

So I had a night to sleep, read about some of the other games, and reflect on what I saw.

The first half was just horrific by the Panthers.  Heck, I was ready to call it quits completely.  The second half was a MUCH better team.  The problem was we were down 20-3.  That's not a good way to try to get a win.  But I will give the Panthers credit for clawing back.  Look, it was closer than it should have been.  The Panthers have to STOP giving other teams turnovers.

Bryce - He did have some really great throws today.  He also had two fumbles and a pick.  On top of the four from week 1... Dude, this is not acceptable.  Bryce is still up and down.  Part of it is definitely him.  Part of it is the coaching and scheme.  The fact there were almost zero plays where they moved the pocket didn't help him at all.

Dave - C'mon discount youth pastor.  He talks a word salad to avoid throwing his players under the bus.  I can appreciate that.  But in the meeting room, you have to sit folks down.  You also need to call better plays.  The last drive was a completely doable drive.  Instead, we had the world longest dead drive.  We had ONE play out of (20?  it felt like 20) that gained yards.  What's going on there???  You're supposed to make teams defend every blade of grass, but the entire game was pretty predictable.

EJ - I'll give him a few props for breaking the 200 yard rushing streak, and generally holding AZ in check.  BUT his D let the Cards march down the end the first half and start the 2nd.  For fugs sake - figure it out!  Your job is to put these dudes in places to be successful.

T-Mac - You are a beautiful Hawaiian god!  He's a f'n DUDE!  He really had a fantastic game.  Much love for T-Mac.

XL - Do you need to go eat some raw racoon or something?  I know he's enjoying his bumpkin bit, but it's only going to work so long as he is a decent player.  Where's the summer XL who was mentioned as a breakout candidate?  Have some pride and go get the ball.

This is still not a good team.  We have some good players sprinkled out there, but we lack talent in a lot of areas.  We have to play perfectly to be able to win, which is not sustainable.  The coaches need to figure it out.

Not sure how you can be serious and have XL in the 53 going forward.

I don't know where Tremayne came from but he has earned more snaps.

Ditching XL is addition by subtraction. I 100% believe Thielen would tell him where to line up  every snap and explain his route. Through 2 games he has shown 0 comprehension of the play book. I’m not absolving Young at all but XL is  supposed to be his second read, but dude runs the wrong routes and gets boxed out by guys who are 4” shorter.

At least Coker has shown aptitude to be a real NFL receiver.

The funny thing is he used to be a complete Cam homer. This is what he has allowed himself to be reduced to. Simping for the most milquetoast QB we've ever seen.

Ok Frank AKA Red, let’s go.

I’m a fair analyst of the complete situation. It’s Lazy fandom to dump everything on the QB. Sometimes it ain’t the QB it’s the situation. And we don’t have a good one here. Stop acting like Bryce has been given this perfect situation to thrive in. His best WR last year got shipped off, right before the season. His best WR this year is a rookie. His #2 is doing nothing but taking up space. His #3 wasn’t even in the league last year and caught two TDs on Sunday. His HC is a question mark. His OC is a student. And his owner is the worst in sports.

It’s true that Young needs a good situation around him to thrive. That’s a separate argument and debate on whether you should pick a high level operator at that high of a pick and give up that much. He’s not Cam Newton. For better and for worse. Cam could disguise your issues but you could also help disguise his. That’s not Bryce. Bryce needs a high level operation that he can orchestrate. He doesn’t and hasn’t had that here.

There’s a reason why guys like AT can put up career numbers with Bryce. There’s a reason why Tet will have a stellar rookie season. You give Bryce NFL caliber WRs and he will cook. But he’s not a floor raiser, he’s a ceiling raiser. Once you understand that, you’ll more clearly see the why.

Frankly, at this point my take on Canales is probably the same as my take on Bryce.

He might be a better assistant than head coach.

I agree with this

Not sure  what he is

his play calls were poor through most of the game

his 2 min drill, atrociously unrecognizable

now who knows how much of that is due to bryce limitations

he also loves to call timeouts in situations that only helps the other teams’ offense be better prepared to score.  It is maddening

And all the rest

i believe, could be wrong, that OL coach from last year, left the Panthers for the Jags and it shows    Plus Corbett with his injury  history had no business starting much  less at center

canales, never has the answers and there is a time to be Mr Rogers a d a time not to be on dealing with grown  men playing at the nfl level

I am actually living in an alternate reality.

I must be.

How does this fuger keep getting positive reviews and support from media outlets, teammates, ex-players etc? This is an in-joke that we as Panthers fans aren't partial to, right?

This was his 30th start on Sunday. He's looked awful in 28 of them.

He put his team in a 10 point hole on Sunday - no-one else threw that INT or fumbled the ball on a routine hit. fug off with his garbage time stats - the Cards played Prevent for 30 minutes.

When the ball bounced our way at the end and the game was on the line they simply dialled up the pressure again and he folded like the bitch he is.

They aren't watching the games, just reading box scores.

Anyone still trying to convince fans that Bryce Young is going to be okay (with a poo-ton of conditions needing to exist) has zero credibility with me.

The guy never passed the simple eye-test with me a couple years ago, and I'll never believe he is an NFL-level QB.

He's a first overall pick. He's one of the smallest and least physically gifted QB's in the entire league. We did not draft him under the guise that he would need top shelf talent and coaching across the board just to look mid. You are basing your conclusion on your emotional attachment. That's all there is to it. Everyone else can see it. Besides. You've already created a thread saying he should be cut a whole year ago. You have no leg to stand on in this discussion anyways. Appreciate the convo bud. Have a lovely day.

How does someone who's always struggled to stay on schedule and read defenses elevate and offense? Cause I had those plus happy feet as red flags coming out of Alabama. There's a reason he led his draft class is QB generated pressure.

- Even with Derrick Brown back, we so far have the kind of defense that would require an offense that scores about thirty points a game to win.

We do not have an offense that can score thirty points a game.

- Young is still not quite good enough for me to endorse sticking with him, but the "worst ever" talk is silly, especially given that his 'support staff' has some major holes in it.

Evaluate him honestly and don't try to explain it away when he does well. You still might come away with negative feelings, but they'll at least be honest.

- Xavier Legette...is it a confidence problem? A skill problem? An effort problem? Combination of things? Unknown, but at this point I'd absolutely move him down the depth chart.

Replace him with Coker (when he's healthy) or Horn, or... somebody. Maybe he can win back his job down the road, but right now? 😖

- Starting to feel like there are some issues with our offensive play design, though more so on the run plays than the passing ones. Not sure whether Canales or Idzik is writing the plays but whomever it is might need to make some changes.

Mind you, this is not something I've put any detailed analysis into at this point. It's just a general observation. Maybe someone who checks the All 22 stuff can take a look.

- Appended to the above, I feel like I'm done with Evero. Though to be fair, I already felt that after last season's debacle.

- Positives: I like this Tremayne kid. Kudos also to Hunter Renfrow and, of course, McMillan.

XL got killed last year and doesn't trust BY to throw him the ball. Put a different QB in and I imagine he would immediately improve.

BY still has the same weaknesses I called out pre draft.

Happy feet.

Can't stay on schedule consistently

Can't read defenses properly at the line to set protection.

He's still the same guy.

I'm pretty sure there was quite a few of us, saying that you couldn't draft Bryce to be the guy and that he would need an all-pro caliber team around him to compete.

How he was the #1 rated player in that draft by consensus I'll never understand.

    • @ForJimmy--I watched his '24 highlights and there's a lot to like.  He's mobile, for certain, but it seems that's his default because he's so good at it.  Lots of RPO stuff.  He's slippery in the pocket, but too quick to vacate it.  I saw very few pocket throws into tight windows, which is the hallmark of an elite QB, especially at the next level.  Green is a playmaker, there's no denying that.  I thought his arm was adequate to above average.  I assumed a big QB like that would have a cannon.  Ball placement was also above average. He's an intriguing prospect, but I'm not sure he's going to end up a top 10 prospect and that's where we are most certainly going to be picking.  If Sellers doesn't come out, he's probably the next best dual threat QB.
    • I was right there with you. I hoped for the best and tried to support once he was drafted. But the media created legend of Bryce Young the draft prospect was honestly like nothing I've ever seen. For a kid who didn't even play all that particularly great for Alabama (Mac Jones was the better college QB and it really wasn't close) he received an insane level of benefit of the doubt. From his supposed elite football IQ elite processing elite preparation elite field general abilities elite leadership yada yada the guy could do absolutely no wrong. Even when he showed up to the combine and hid out in a hoodie refusing to throw nobody batted an eye. And even after that he was still compared to current and past hall of famers in the NFL and other sports across the spectrum. If he didn't play for Saban and Alabama it would have been and would be right now completely different in the way he was and is perceived. But again. I've never seen anything like it for other prospects that I can think of in recent memory. Others have been dissected in some way or another. Maybe the only other comparison I would make would be Andrew Luck. But Luck had the necessary physical intangibles that Bryce Young very plainly lacked when you sit down and watch the tape. It was crazy then and it is still crazy now. 🤷‍♂️
    • Yeah I didn’t remember how many guys were on offense besides him that were taken but did figure he was facing one, maybe two guys that would be drafted from whatever defense it he was playing. Then the out of conference games against smaller schools that are basically exhibitions, sheesh, you know they can feast.    The other thing is, out of those 62, how many really had NFL bodies at that point? Few of them. Most will be different players after a year of NFL training and body development. So you have to think about what the difference is. Even with the SEC guys that got taken, they will be better in the pros too. So when you factor all that in, and look at the Bryce tape and the Bryce pro day and whatever, I just will never understand why.
