Bryce Young will have a Brees career arc. I doubt it will be with the Panthers.

Facts are he is short and has shitty mechanics and arm strength. Also it is year 3 and he is still making rookie mistakes.

He's also put zero effort in to learning how to baseball slide, which people killed Cam about and he actually put in the work and learned quickly.

Mike and Alex from the Observer had a pretty good discussion about Bryce in the most recent Processing Blue podcast they did.  I listened to it on the way in this morning.

Bryce will give you 5 or so "wow plays" versus 5 or so "WTF plays."  There's just a nuance to any discussion of Bryce.  There's a lot to be made of his physical limitations and his mental errors.  No matter what, Bryce is just so polarizing.

Personally - I still think Bryce is going to have to prove it this year.  Can he prove to us that he's the franchise?  I don't know.  He's going to have to play better and elevate the team.  We haven't seen that yet.  Let's let him develop.  It will lead us to a top 10 pick or a more competitive team.

The investment in him has been massive when you look at the support investments along with the assets directly invested in him.

Without mentioning that the rest of the team had to adapt to two head coaches in two years.

As Parcels said about walking on water, his feet are wet. But I wonder what the bar is for a 250 million dollar deal. It has been a low bar to this point. It is scary.

I shudder to think of even a Brock Purdy sized investment into Bryce. That would cripple the franchise for years.

This.  The Panthers paid up big time to get the number one pick.  We gambled and lost by selecting a unicorn; mistake number one.  Now the team is so over committed to shaping a Bryce-friendly roster, just to justify the original decision to trade up and draft him; mistake number two.  The Panthers brain trust will now double down on the above by signing him to a new plus size contract next year?  If he hasn’t proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that he is a franchise QB by now, how can they possibly throw even more money at this experiment?  Will some adult in the room please explain the concept of ‘sunk cost’ to Tepper?  Absent ego, cut your loss and move on.

If they do, and as of right now I hope they don’t, maybe they can make is very team friendly. Where there is an out after 2 years.
Kinda like what the Giants did when they extended Daniel Jones.

We were that close to it happening last Sunday if Rico hadn't of turned into Jim Brown.

Rico’s output last game is still a net positive for the team long term, even if it postponed BY’s reckoning by another game or so.  Thrilled with the idea of retaining him and having Chubba and Rico for the next QB that replaces BY.

I've thought since day 1, even though I wanted Stroud, that if Young was going to be successful he would likely look like Brees to start and end up taking off later in his career on a new team. Unfortunately/fortunately so far that looks to be spot on. By every metric aside from Yds/g, so far in 2025, Year 3 Bryce Young is significantly outplaying Brees' Year 3. My feeling is that the Bryce Young we saw at the end of last year was actually just a sneak peek of the player he is to become in a year or 2. Weather he will be on the Panthers or another team remains to be seen, I just hope if he isn't on the Panthers when he does play like the back half of 2024 for full time that we at least have our version of Philip Rivers in his place...

You are probably right.

And let's not wish for a Philip Rivers. All hat and no cattle... all stats and no wins.

    • It’s like being on the Flyers broadcast team feed so far
    • Boy the flyers look good early. Lots of bad plays and slow start by our team. Hope that changes before the score changes.
    • I guess I should have stipulated outside the sacred cow.   I complained from year one that Bryce should compete for and win the starting job on his own merit but no he was just handed it. I have been right there with everyone that wants competition.  But I don’t really have a huge problem with it for this season the way it has gone because where are the viable people we don’t have to trade for? I actually am okay with tiny hands Pickett because he is so close to Bryce arm strength wise and to be honest, skill wise. Probably. And it is only a one year deal.  That also takes into account that the QB class is looking stacked next year and if Young fails miserably then we get either a reset or a real competition and there will be more guys that I would like looking at in the FA QB class next year as well.    I sort of accept where we are this year and look at it as another treading water year (at QB). I just want to get to next year with some clarity. More than anything. And they did empty out the room. Again, who was really there for us?  And I know it would not be a true competition at this point anyway. They are giving him the year, like it or not.    Also I don’t give a poo about winning games IF he sucks and or goes down after sucking because draft position and that stacked QB class.  And I want out from under him So Bad.     So I guess it is several factors that lessen my anxiety over his backup this particular season.    I am not trying to convince anyone, but you asked. That’s how I look at it.
