Still believe Horn and Brown were the right choice but good for Burns.

I think more about an alternative universe where we kept McCaffery. Probably for the best we moved on when we did but he might have been the perfect weapon for Bryce, and it would have been nice to see him used more strategically than Rhule did.

I've seen much discussion on this topic, but its really hard to evaluate it piece for piece due to the cap implications it had. 

For example: I'm not sure we sign hunt or lewis with burns contract. 

Those picks obviously turned into XL and Mitchell Evans. So our side of the trade is still very much TBD. 

That said, as good as Burns has been this year, and he's been really good, He's still a pash rush only DE.  He's also getting a lot of 1 on 1 there, as they have Thibidoux (I'm sure that's spelled wrong) and Abdul Carter, as well as Dexter Lawrence in the middle. If you don't double Dexter, your play is not going to work. You can only have him on the field on first and second down if you have a dexter lawrence, or a derrick brown. If you watch the giants, one of their biggest flaws is that teams attack their defense the same way they attacked ours when he was here: Run off tackle straight at Brian Burns.

I'm not sure you can win a lot of games with a player like that absorbing so much of the cap. So sure, he's on pace for a ridiculous season, but the giants are not good, and I really don't think he'd be able to put up the same production here.  Throw in the way this trade opened up our offense, and I think it's a wash for us at worst.

The Fitterer situation is funny to me.  I recall defending his personnel decisions, particularly as it relates to QB, and getting flamed for it.  Yet, sure enough, the two QBs he brought in are arguably the two best QBs in football right now.

That is true. Or close to it. Arguably. Lol. 
 

At the same time wasn’t he ostensibly in charge of shipping them out or not keeping them and putting us in Bryce land? Just to keep in the  narrow field of QBs and not other moves.

The Panthers made splash signings and trades at QB with both Hurney and Fitterer. Big contract to Teddy Bridgewater big trade for Sam Darnold trade for Baker Mayfield. Trade all the way up to #1 for Bryce Young. They kept upping the ante every time. That's because the Tepper's were always in the room.

The main issue was consistent effort, being a complete liability against the run, and asking for more than he was worth. Trading him was the right move and still is, the biggest problem was not trading him when the best deal was on the table.

Its because Carter and Lawrence are getting the attention.  He was always the best when he wasnt the primary rusher.  Actually when he was here most of his sacks came when he was completely unblocked it felt like.

He leads the Giants in double and triple team rate.

      Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.

      I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
