I can't believe I am saying this... I think (within the context of this past Sunday's game) we are a better team with Bryce Young on the field.  If he had started I genuinely think that would have been a close game.  His escapability was desperately missed.  Dalton was utterly atrocious.

I can’t believe you’re saying that either.

It is a matter of small degrees because he can be every bit that bad.

Interesting note on the Dalton injury. DC wouldn’t commit to whether Bryce or Andy would be ready to go this week. One of the reporters asked if that meant Hendon Hooker would be the guy if they couldn’t go and he said that was the conversations they (coaching staff ) are having now.

Would it be worth our time to just be conservative and just let some of these borderline injured guys (Mayes, Moton, Young, Zavala, Wallace) rest this week and get ready for these back to back divisional games and MNF game?

If there is substantial risk of further injury OR a dramatic reduction in playing ability that will reduce the player to less capable than the corresponding backup, yes.

Outside of that, I don't know why you wouldn't just play them.

For Mayes, the backup in question has proven to be very unreliable. Not to mention you then rob the OG spot of a quality player.

For Moton, there is no capable backup without BC.

For Young, the drop of to Dalton was greater than anticipated but he also had a game very similar in outcome to "bad Bryce" games. Minimal impact.

Zavala is purely a backup. A suspect one.

For Wallace, I am sure there is a drop off but he is already so bad that the impact isn't meaningful.

It is indeed.  Most of what gave Dalton fits is that he had 15lb rocks attached to his feet.

I disagree. He appeared to have 15 pounds of rocks attached to his brain. Andy has never been a great athlete and he is less so with age. He is typically fairly decisive and doesn't hold onto the ball too long.

That was not Sunday. It looked as if Bryce Young's brain had inhabited Andy's decrepit body with the full confidence of Bryce at Alabama.

Completely washed. We have backup caliber QB starting and a guy who should be out of the league backing him up. Oof.

"Washed" was the first word that came to my mind as well.

If he really is valuable as a mentor, keep him on as an Assistant QB Coach or something along those lines, but I feel like his days as a player are done.

If your 3rd year #1 overall pick still needs a hand holding vet mentor that's as big of a red flag as being five foot nothing a hundred and nothing pounds with a 12 year old's arm.

He was never a superstar.  "The Dalton Line" was a thing for a reason.  It's just now he's 38.

    • I'm not too familiar with Chenal so this might be a lazy question..... Would a Chenal signing be any similar to us giving Turk a big contract? An under appreciated fringe starter in KC that teammates and front offices love and envision them taking off in a new city.
    • I LOOOOVED Nick Emmanwori in last year's draft and seeing him thrive and become an instant leader of Seattle's defense this year makes me want a similar rookie beside Moehrig.  In scanning this year's draft, I came across Zakee Wheatley from PSU. Not exactly the same build, but Senior Bowl measurements have him at a hair under 6'3" & 200lbs and runs a 4.4. His acceleration, ability to span the field and be a true center field coverage safety would allow Moehrig to float more near the LOS and play to his strengths with a worthy compliment. Wheatley is a modern day lengthy SAF and he excels in zone coverage, isn't afraid to get dirty in the run game and has a nose for the ball.  We play such a soft cover-3 scheme that having someone with speed to roam would be great. I'd especially like to see us roll Ransom out there with these two as well with Horn/Jackson to secure that backend for us. Looking like a R2 pick as of now with some saying early third. If he truly is an athletic specimen that his numbers show, I assume he will only climb higher after the combine.  https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25250463-nfl-draft-2026-scouting-report-penn-state-s-zakee-wheatley Will defnitely look to see how he does at the Sr. Bowl this weekend and in Indy next month.
    • Yeah, I can see that too. Sticky, reliable hands that does not drop a lot of balls and runs the whole route tree.
